I am seeking information on William Thomas McLean, born 17July1859 in Canada. He married Sarah Pardee 14Nov1912 in CT. He was an oral surgeon in Cincinnati, having graduated from the Ohio College of Dental Surgery in 1889. He later held a chair at one of the universities, the story being Ohio State but when I contacted them they had no one by his name in their list of previous professors. Possibly he was at Univ. of Cincinnati. I have found a William T. McLean, dentist, 92 W. 7th, in the 1890 Cincinnati City Directory. According to the 1900 census, there is a William McLean, dentist, on Locust St., born Mar 1859 Canada, immigrated 1879, 21 years naturalized, married 18 years (that would be abt. 1882) to Mary A. born June 1859, Denmark, 3 children born and 1 living, and son Jewel born Apr. 1894 age 6. According the the Ohio Physician & Dentist Directory 1905, there is a W.T. McLean, dentist, Cincinnati, Ohio. The family story is that he was attending a dental conference in New Haven, CT and met Sarah Pardee. They fell in love, he moved to CT and they were married. They are my mother in law's parents and there is no history of him ever being married previously even though he was 52 when they married. The more I research, the more it appears that he was married and had a son. Unless there were 2 dentists by the same name in Cincinnati at the same time, both born the same year in Canada. The other items I have been able to find online are the 1910 census, in which Mary age 58, married 28 years, and son Julius age 16 are on Montieth Ave. She does list herself as married but no husband is listed on the census. I have the WW1 draft registration card for Jules Townsly McLean, listing mother and wife but not listing father. In the 1920 census, Mary is listed as a widow born 1851. I found the death certificate for Mary McLean born 18Mar 1851 in Denmark, widowed, husband was William. She committed suicide 22Feb 1927 in Cincinnati. The informant for the certificate was someone other than her son, so the personal information is not necessarily correct. Buried in Vine Street Hill. I found the death certificate for Jules T. McLean, born 01Feb 1984 and died 19 Aug 1937 in Cincinnati. He was divorced and a Dr. of Chiropractic. Father was listed as William G. McLean and mother as Mary Iverson. Buried in Vine Street Cemetery. As with his mother, the informant for the death certificate was not a family member so the information was not necessarily correct. How can I find out if there was a divorce between 1900 and 1912, or probably more likely between 1910 and 1912? Is there a way to find out what dentists were practicing in Cincinnati in the late 1800s through 1910? How about birth records for 1894 or marriage records between 1910 and 1917? This has become a real family mystery. I think I will have to come to Cincinnati at some point to do research but any help you all can give me will be appreciated. Joanne
