    1. [OHHAMILT] Steamboats, etc.
    2. Hi; I did quite a bit of searching several years ago when I found my great-great grandfather's obituary which stated he was "the well known steamboat man". Apparently he was not well known enough to have been documented anywhere! But in the process, I ran across some very interesting resources. Look for books about Ohio River and Inland rivers steamboats by Frederick WAY. Many names and boats are mentioned, although most of the people were ship's captains, not just crew. If you are in Cincinnati - volumes should be in the main library. Also, there is an organization which published an extremely detailed journal, probably quarterly. I believe the name of the society is "Sons and Daughters of Riverboat Pioneers" and is located in Marietta, Ohio. Those publications are also full of details, including family names and information. Turned out my ancestor was apparently a watchman on the boats, most likely on the Kentucky side of the Ohio, as he was found in both Newport and Covington late in life. So, good luck on your search -- and if you run across Hiram POTTS, I'd appreciate the info! Ann Bergelt Florida **************Get trade secrets for amazing burgers. 3. Hello Ann, My GG-grandfather Martin Menkhaus (changed later to Minkhouse) b. 1829 in Hannover, German States, d. ca 1870, Cincinnati was a purser for the packet boat lines, with his office at the public landing, Cincinnati. Martin sold tickets to passengers, and helped with their luggage in boarding the boats. Thanks for the information on the river boats on the Ohio and riverboart pioneers.
