Hello, Can anyone help me to find out more about some GOULD families in Cincinnati? I'm not familiar with researching USA records, so I'm not sure what is available. In 1870, William GOULD is head of a household in Cincinnati (page 48 of census). He is 64 years old, an ale agent, and born in England. Sarah PAYNE, aged 66, a widow, is keeping house. In the same house are Katie GOULD, aged 10, Henry C GOULD, aged 8, and Lillie M GOULD, aged 6. My guess is that the children are grandchildren of William. If so, is there any way of finding out who their parents were ? Is there any way of finding out from where in England William came ? As an ale agent, would he have had to register his personal details, and if so, how likely is it that these records would have survived ? I'm trying to determine whether he is "my" William GOULD, who was born in Somerset, England, and married Hannah CLARKE in the small village of Chewton Mendip in Somerset in 1828. They had children John (1830), George (1833), Alfred (1835), Ann (1839), Elizabeth (1841) and William (1844). I know the whereabouts of John, Alfred, Ann & Elizabeth, but what happened to George and William jnr is still a mystery to me. Alfred was in First Ward, Cuyahoga, Ohio in 1870, so it would not surprise me to find his brothers or father in Ohio somewhere. All suggestions or information gratefully received.
