James Lamont and William Anderson came to the U. S. in 1832. By 1834 the company "Lamont and Anderson, Merchant Tailors" is found in the Cincinnati directory. In 1837 Hugh Lamont, David Lamont and his wife Margaret, and Roger Lamont came to Cincinnati. Hugh, James, and Roger were tailors, David was a machinist I believe that James, David and Roger are brothers and that Hugh is their father. I have Hugh Lamont's bible and the ages of the three boys agree with the birth dates given there. I'm hoping to find obituaries or church records to confirm this. James, Hugh and Roger died before the Ohio death records began. Hugh may have died in Kentucky since he was living there in the 1850 census. Roger, his wife and two daughters are buried in Wesleyan Cemetery. In an 1839-1840 Cincinnati city directory James, Hugh, Roger and William Anderson are with Lamont and Anderson and David is a pattern-maker at D. A. Powell's (a foundry). The 1840 Census shows David Lamont and William Anderson, each with a wife and one child. Only heads of households are listed by name that year. The others are probably rooming somewhere and thus do not show up in the census. The 1842 city directory lists only David and Robert (probably Roger). In the 1850 census Hugh and Martha Lamont; and David with Margaret Lamont and four children are living in Newport, Kentucky. Newport is just across the Ohio River from Cincinnati. Roger Lamont with Elizabeth and two daughters; and William Anderson with a wife, Jane, and four children are living in Cincinnati. Since James Lamont is not shown either in the 1850 census or the 1842 city directory, he probably died before 1842. In the 1860 census Elizabeth Lamont and Jane Anderson are shown with their children. There is no column that year for marital status but is likely that Roger Lamont and William Anderson have died. David and his family are in Winnebago County, Illinois, and I have not been able to find Hugh. If someone has access to other years of the city directories, I would like to know when the company, "Lamont and Anderson, Merchant Tailors", disappears. I would also appreciate any suggestions for documenting the deaths of James and Hugh Lamont. Thanks for any help, Alison McIntyre
