St. Meinrad's is a Benedictine monastery, college and school of theology. Ferdinand is the location of one of the largest congregations of Benedictine nuns in the U.S. I suggest that Mr. Bauer write to the Monastery of the Immaculate Conception, 802 E. 10th St., Ferdinand IN and ask if they have any information about his GG aunt. I have found that most religious communities are very happy to help in one's search for relatives. There is more information about the Ferdinand Benedictines at www.thedome.org - including a short history of the establishment of the monastery which traces its history back to the Benedictine sisters in St. Mary's PA as well as Erie PA. St. Meinrad's Abbey is there, but I believe there is also a convent. Many German Catholic families went downriver from the Cincinnati area to settle this place in the 1800's. It's quite a bit like Oldenburg, Indiana. Later, Ann Bergelt Florida In a message dated 3/25/2010 5:55:08 P.M. This would be in the 1900-1915 time frame. I tried Google with no success. This is my first attempt at genealogy in Hamilton County and I'm not sure where to begin. I'm trying to find information concerning my GGAunt, surname is DANGEL, who became a nun. Her order was listed in the obituary of my GG Aunt. The whole family lived in Pittsburgh PA, so I'm not sure how she got to Cincinnati.
