    1. [OHHAMILT] Anyone researching Flaherty/Flarity ?
    2. Sue Martinson
    3. Hello Everyone Is anyone researching Flaherty or Flarity in the 1850's in Cincy ? My Agnes Margaret Flaherty was born about 1825, probably in Ireland. She was listed in the 1870 Louisville City Directory as the widow of James. She died in 1870, age 45.  Family lore says she ran a boarding house in Cincy. She actually did run one in Louisville from 1868-70. No trace of her on any census.  No info on James, her husband.   Her daughter Bridget Agnes Flaherty Manning Gibbons was supposedly born 1853 but I suspect it was really 1847.  The family was from Galway Bay. If anyone has any info on this family, please contact me. Thanks so much. Sue in Florida

    2. Maureen Eburne
    3. I am writing for information on my grandfather William David Dempster who appears on the census of 1870 in Cincinnati, Ohio. He was apparently married and had a daugther Maggie. His wife died and he subsequently returned to Jamaica where he had been born. He served in the US Civil War in an Ohio regiment. Any information will be greatly appreciated. -----Original Message----- >From: ohhamilt-request@rootsweb.com >Sent: Nov 16, 2009 8:15 PM >To: maureen645@earthlink.net >Subject: Welcome to the "OHHAMILT" mailing list > >Welcome to the OHHAMILT mailing list! > > The OHHAMILT mailing list is for anyone who is doing research in >Cincinnati and Hamilton County, OHIO. 3. Yeah, I'm not getting results either. The page comes up fine, but when you do a search, it takes you to a page that shows Results 1-20 of 55170 matching your search criteria (which is clearly wrong) and shows a blank page below it. They may be having technical difficulties there at Walnut Hills Cemtery :-(. 1. [OHHAMILT] Warren county Genealogical Society Meeting, Wednesday, November 18, 2009
    2. Arne H. Trelvik
    3. Jim Bissland, author of "Blood, Tears, and Glory: The Civil War's Untold Story", will speak at the meeting of the Warren County Genealogical Society on Wed, November 18, at 7:30 PM. The meeting will be held in the Phillipi Meeting Room of the Campus Center at the Otterbein-Lebanon Retirement Community, 585 State Route 741 (north of State Route 63), near Lebanon OH. Mr. Bissland gives a lively and interesting talk on the role of Ohio in the Civil War. No reservations are necessary. The meeting is open to the public and we hope that you will be able to join us. Arne H. Trelvik Warren County Genealogical Society (513) 695 1144 or wcgs@co.warren.oh.us -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The following is the description of Jim’s book from the publisher’s website http://www.orangefrazer.com/btg/index.html It’s the greatest untold story of the Civil War… …and one of the newest. For 150 years, the battlefields of Virginia, Gettysburg, and Antietam were what Americans thought of first when they thought of the Civil War. Wrong. While Easterners were battling to a bloody stalemate, Midwestern farmers, shopkeepers, and country lawyers fighting elsewhere were shaping the war’s outcome. Dismissed by haughty Easterners as “armed rabble or “drunkards,” these citizen-soldiers, white and black, often were poorly trained and poorly equipped-—but they were tough, confident, and supported by strong women who found their own ways to get into the fight. And the Midwesterners included most of the Union’s top generals. From brilliant, if flawed, commanders to feisty enlisted men who were hard to discipline but hard to scare, Blood, Tears, & Glory tells powerful stories of the war, many for the first time, and all from a new point of view. Next to Lincoln, the war’s most important leaders were three men with Ohio roots: the first, a silent, slouchy little man who hated the sight of blood and loved his family more than anything; the second, a jittery lover of literature who was once thought to be insane; the third, a sickly lawyer known for his mysterious ways and ferocious temper. And, far more than we realize, women and blacks played major roles in the drama. Together, the men and women of the Civil War era form one of our greatest generations, and their many stories of heroism and heartbreak, brilliance and stupidity, compassion and cruelty, come together for the first time in one great story: Blood, Tears, and Glory: How Ohioans Won the Civil War.

    3. My name is Mac Webb and I have a connection in my wifes line of a Schweisguth family. Annie Schweisguth was born around 1871 in southwest Ohio. Her mother is Emma Hopfengartner. Apparently her father died before 1880 because she is in the household of Charles Evert and Emma Evert listed as a daughter. Annie marries Anton Fuerst around 1890 and they are found in subsequent census reports, including the 1930 census when her mother is listed in Anton and Annie's household as Mother-in-law. 3. Ann, There are several used copies available through Amazon.com from third- party sellers. The cheapest currently listed is $3.99 + $3.99 shipping. I've bought books that way before and have never had a problem. If there is one, Amazon will help you deal with the problem with the seller. It's an extremely interesting book with many facts about the Cincinnati area, neighborhood by neighborhood. I'm thinking a used copy in reasonable condition. I checked Amazon.com and the prices vary widely. Seems to me there should be some available in the Cincinnati area yet. Thanks, Ann Bergelt Florida

    3. ---- Subject: Re: Speaking of Books You might try the Library Friends Shop or the offices of the Friends of the Library. The Friends Shop offers used books, including some discards from the Library; The Friends of the Library has periodic sales again offering used books including gifts and Library discards. Perhaps they would be willing to keep a lookout for a copy for you. Incidentally, my copy of the book is in 1 (large) volume, which is what the library was carrying at the time of publication. The two volume may have been a special set. Good luck.
