I just tried a search for a marriage record. The index said the record was in vol 100 page 240. But when I retrieved that page the person I was looking for wasn't there (nor was he on any of the surrounding pages). But I noticed that the marriages are displayed 2 per page and, besides a page number, are individually numbered. So I decided look for marriage #240 instead of page #240. I started by dividing the page number given in the index by 2 and looking at page #120. That page contained marriage #237 and #238. So I looked at the next page (#121) and found the marriage (#240) that I was looking for. There was a United Brethren Church in Cherry Grove called Pleasant Valley. Does anyone have any information on this church? Does it still exist today? John Charles Tippet johntippet@cox.net
At the Family History Center near you (see Familysearch.org, then "Library", then "Library Catalog". Look under land records in Hamilton County. The library has land records starting in 1787. The films can be brought to your local Family History Center nearest to you, if they aren't already on permanent loan. To find the Family History Center near you, go to the home page of Familysearch.org and near the bottom of the home page, find " Find a Family History Center". Enter your city and state, and you'll find a Center near you. Hope you find what you're looking for, and that these directions are helpful. Does a map exist or do land deeds exist on those land sales in Ohio Pre-1800 etc. Also, does the downtown library have this type of thing or would I need to visit the DC archives? My exact question is about borders and land on a 320 acre transfer, but as best I know Stites owned over 10000 acres at one point. Any direction on this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. RJ, Bill Graver is an expert in the maps and land deeds for Hamilton County, which extended beyond its current boundaries early on. He published Index to Selected Hamilton County, Ohio, Recorder's Books, 1801-1820, but some entries go back as far as 1788 in that index. Unfortunately I just sold my last copy and will have to reprint, and my original records are in storage or I would look up for you, but the Recorder's Office should have a copy. Bill volunteers (or did) at the Cincinnati Historical Society library/archives and was making appts to help people one on one. I don't know if he is still doing that. You may check with your local library to see if they have a copy. The index is a real time saver. I came across this advertised book and have a request: If another subscriber owns a copy, would you please let me know if any Harrells are listed. My Harrells settled in Cleves/North Bend. Thank you. Sue Hamilton County, Ohio, Index of Early Deed Books, 1804-1806 and 1814-1817 William H. Graver, Eileen Mullen Paper; 8.5 x 11; v, 294 pages; alphabetical $32.50 plus $3.00 mailing (Ohio residents add $2.28 sales tax) ISBN 1-932250-19-0 This book indexes more than 12,000 names found in the documents of the Hamilton County, Ohio, Recorder's deed books F1, F2, O, and P. Because some documents were not recorded until years after they were written, these books contain entries dated as early as 1788. More than 4,500 of the names are from documents written in the periods from 1788-1803 and 1807-1813. It is the only name index that exists for these books. This index is especially helpful in finding early families as there were no city or county directories during these years. More than 5,500 entries tell where the person lived and more than 2,400 names pair husbands and wives.
I am trying to trace my SILVERSTONE ancestors in Cincinnati. This is what I know already: 1. Jacob SILVERSTONE, born Poland about 1788, emigrated to England where he had two children: Frances (about 1833, London), Ellen (about 1835, Paddington, London) and Rosa (1837, Strand, London). Rosa's mother was Hannah HARRIS (this may be an English version of a German or Polish name). 2. Further emigration to US (1837-1841?) where the family appears in Cincinnati in 1850 US Census. No sign of Hannah, Jacob's supposed wife, who may have died en route to the US or in the US. The family may have arrived in the US just after the 1840 Census as there is no trace of them until 1850. 3. Ellen marries Henry JACOBS about 1851-53 and has two children (Hannah - 1854 and Morris Henry - about 1856) and return to England where the rest of the family were born and brought up in Brighton, Sussex. (This suggests that Hannah was also Ellen's mother although I have not found any record of Ellen's birth in the UK. Her place of birth is only known from the later UK Census's.) 4. Jacob is mentioned in the history of the KK Bene Yeshurun Temple as being a trustee in 1841 and was present at the laying of the foundation stone of the new temple in 1865. 5. Rosa marries Henry Meyer in 1858 and they move to Kentucky. I am still searching for: 1. Information about Jacob's place of birth in Poland, his marriage (when/where) and his death, probably in the US.2. Any information about Hannah SILVERSTONE (nee Harris) - birth, death etc.3. Who was "Corrada" SILVERSTONE, mentioned in the 1850 US Census as being born in Germany? and I would be interested in making contact with any descendants in the US. Gerry

There is an area in Northern KY, likely Campbell Co., called Ryland. There are many summer homes as well as your-round homes there, as well as a golf course. Others will have more information. Try the Campbell County (KY) Library.
At my sister's this evening for Thanksgiving dinner, she showed me a photo album that must have belonged to my grandfater. In it are several, most of the album, photos from different events at Ryland Park, dating from 1912 - probably 1917 when he went to the Army for WW I. The downside is there are no names with each photo, only the date and the event. Is anyone on this list familiar with this park and it's history. Thank you..............I hope everyone had a very Happy Thanksgiving Bob G
