Hello Listers , Does anyone on this list have ancestors by the names and BARTLETT and/or VON STEIN? I have two pictures of a Ralph Bartlett taken in 1920 and 1921 (he was 16 years old in 1921), and one (but maybe three) pictures of Cecil VonStein taken in 1923. I would love to find any descendants of these two men. They were good friends of my father, Faye L. Dill. I am not sure where these pictures were taken. One of the pictures of Von Stein looks like it could have been taken in downtown Cincinnati. Another picture of Von Stein has him sitting on the hood of an old automobile. the two of Barlett looks like they were taken in the country, perhaps in the New Baltimore area or in Crosby Township somewhere. If I don't hear from anyone for awhile, I will try the Butler County Rootsweb list. Thank you, Barbara (Dill) Noble in Indiana
Hi everyone, Thanks for your ideas. Adobe Acrobat Reader doesn't come prepackaged on Macs (or at least, didn't on mine) but I downloaded it when I got my computer since so many online genealogy-related things are in PDF format. The marriage licenses don't appear to come with the ability to pick page numbers, but maybe they're supposed to and it's just not displaying correctly on my computer for some reason. I'll try the other suggestions and I will also check the website more thoroughly to see if there's a suggestion there that I haven't yet read. If anyone has any other suggestions, I'd be happy to hear them too. Thanks again, Liz Loveland
Liz, sometimes trying different web browsers works for me. For instance, Mozilla-Firefox works better for me than Safari in certain situations. Also, on the pages that have two records, it's not the page # that is given but the record #. Try dividing the # given by two to find the record you want. just for starters, you could go to www.hamiltoncountyauditor.org and look for properties on Longworth........if lucky, you might find one that was built in the 1800's and see a photo of it. I would suspect the answers to your questions depended on the wealth of a person as to what kind of home they built or bought. -----Original Message----- From: Nancy Wiseman <nanwise@yahoo.com> To: OHHAMILT@rootsweb.com Sent: Tue, Feb 9, 2010 9:17 pm Subject: [OHHAMILT] Cincinnati home architecture help needed Hello, I am writing a biography of one of my ancestors and would like to know hat a typical home in Cincinnati was like in the mid 1820s. Dear Listers, I sincerely apologize for the request yesterday regarding a John G. Dill's divorce. I do not know why I typed in his name, instead of his son's name of Matthew J. DILL. I've been researching Matthew James DILL for years. H e was my great-grandfather . After his wife, Mary, died in 1899 in Crosby Township , he remarried a woman from Kentucky in 1900. I could never find a marriage record for him and this un-named woman. Then I found a Cincinnati newspaper article dated January 1901 regarding a "James Dill from Crosby Township filing for a divorce from wife, Elizabeth. " There were no other Dill's left in Crosby Township by 1901 except my Matthew James DILL. His son, George DILL, my grandfather, was living in Hamilton, Butler County, Ohio, by then. So, I figured this newspaper article had to have been MY great-grandfather. My Matthew James DILL sort of 'disappeared' after that. Would anyone on this list have any suggestions? I live in Indianapolis and have no car to get to Cincinnati to do more research, so I have to depend on the nice people on this list to help me. Would it be possible for me to get a copy of the divorce records? I have no idea who to write to for this. Thank you for all your help over the years. Hi Everyone on this list, I was wondering where in Cincinnati could I find a divorce record that was filed by my great-great grandfather, John Dill, from his wife, Elizabeth Dill from Kentucky, on 16 January 1901? If not exactly on the 16th of January ... maybe a little before or after that date. They were living as husband and wife at the time in Crosby Township on a farm, in Hamilton County, Ohio, near New Haven and/or New Baltimore. Perhaps there was a Cincinnati newspaper announcement on John's filing for divorce. I do not know if the divorce was finalized, but if it was, would there have been an announcement in the local newspapers about it in 1901? Also, where in Cincinnati could I write for a copy of the divorce? Thank you so much for any help on where to go from here on this mystery. ~ Barbara (Dill) Noble in Indiana
I would think the probate court website would have divorce records, have you checked probatect.org? The big fires were before 1900 so you should be in luck. Hello, I am trying to find a marriage for Edward Uriah DILL and Florence KINNEY on 25 Aug 1906 in Hamilton County, Ohio. I tried the city of Hamilton in Butler County, Ohio, but there was no record of this marriage there. I am hoping someone on this list has either access to a marriage book or to a website where I can find this information in Cincinnati. Thank you for any help, Barbara in Indiana
Hi. There's an Edward W. Dill whose marriage bond is in 1903-1906. Book 191; p. 344. For some reason the K file for 1903-6 doesn't work well. SO I can't verify if the page/book are the same or not. It IS. I was able to pull up the marriage bond. If you'd like me to send a copy of it to you privately, please let me know.
