    1. [OHHAMILT] Eddy family of Cincinnati
    2. CINDY CRAWFORD
    3. It has been a long while since I posted anything on my EDDY family.  I have yet to find information on Francis Marion EDDY although I have some circumstantial ideas of who he belonged to.   I thought I would try again to locate information on Francis Marion EDDY born abt 1850 and I do believe in Ohio...he was married to Anna ASH EDDY who was born in Doddridge County, WV.  For some reason they both moved to Cincinnati, Ohio and made their life there.  Francis Marion died in 1906 in Cincinnati and is buried in the Wesleyan Cemetery in Cincinnati, Ohio.  I know for a fact they were there in 1900 and children being born by birth records yet I cannot find them on the census records.   When he died his children were put into orphan homes.  I have records where they were taken from Anna ASH EDDY.  One was sent to THE ORIENT in Columbus, Ohio as feeble minded.  She was born just a few months after her father died and was named FRANCES MARIAN EDDY on her birth record but her name was later changed to ALENA F. EDDY, she never married and she died in Butler County, Ohio 18 Oct 1994..I just missed finding her by two years.  My grandmother I don't think even knew she existed.   His daughter GRACE CRAMER EDDY was sent by Orphan Train of H D Clarke to northern Ohio and was taken by family named Emmerling...she later married Howard Miller and she died in Florida. Grace was born in Cincinnati, Ohio   HIs daughter MARY ELIZABETH EDDY stayed in Glendale, Ohio at the Bethany Home until the older sister (my grandmother) RUTH EDDY got married and took Mary Elizabeth out.  Mary Elizabeth eventually married a John R. Sheffield and she died in Florida. She was born in Cincinnati, Ohio   In 1910, my grandmother RUTH ARABELLA EDDY was living as a servant in the home of Lebert Weir who was the chief probation officer of juvenile court.  It was said my grandmother was a juvenile delinquent because she ran away a lot trying to find her siblings.  She was eventually put in the House of Refuge in Cincinnati and taken out by MINNIE STOW and kept as house  worker.  She did eventually find two sisters, Grace and Mary above.  She never found her brother........   ISAAC N. EDDY was born in Cincinnati, Ohio in 1902 as WILLIAM C. EDDY name changed I don't know when but he was ISAAC N. EDDY and I do have records that show this.  Isaac in 1910 was also in the Bethany Home with two of his 4 sisters in Glendale Ohio, Hamilton County.  In 1912 he too was taken by Orphan Train to West Virginia by H D Clarke...he was placed with the family of S.O. Davis in West Virginia.  I was able to find him up to 1920 at which time he disappears never to be found again.  I would dearly love to find what happened to him.  It was said that the families who took children in were to give them some money and freedom at age 18...in a Orphan Train book there is mention of Isaac telling the Davis family he was running away and joining the Navy.  I would love to know if he did this and what happened to him.  A Davis family member several years back said they remembered Isaac when they were a child, didn't know that he came from an orphan home and that they thought he was going out west when he left.  I have one baby photo of Isaac with 3 of his 4 sisters above before they were taken away from their mother.   It seems that they not only were in Bethany Home in Glendale but they were all in the Cincinnati Children's Home at one time or more.  Grace & Isaac were taken from the Cincinnati Children's Home and sent off by HD Clarke on the orphan trains.    Any help on this family would be more than appreciated.  Ancestry.com has so many EDDY trees using my Francis Marion Eddy incorrectly.  I would like to fix that but there is so many of them and I have no idea where they got such information.   Thanks in advance Cindy

    2. Marian; In the 1870-84 Restored Marriages index, there are actually two marriages for Ferdinand TAPKE: to (Mrs) Elisabeth Lueck on 15 Nov 1876 and to Caorlina [sic] VonBeuman [sic] 23 Jan 1878 Both are coded CC, which in that index does indicate St. Joseph Cath. Ch. In the other index for that same time period (1870-84) for Marriages Recorded at Hamilton Co. OH Probate Court: Ferdinand Tapke again is listed twice: to Elisabetha Lük 11/15/1876 and to Elisabetha Kessen same date, same officiant (apparently one was her maiden name and the other her previously married name)? The officiant listed was Engelbert Stehle, Volume #B29, Entry #169 The list of officants in the front of the book gives the following information about Engelbert Stehle - St. Joseph, southeast corner of Linn & Laurel - died 28 July 1896 (Roman Catholic - German ) Ann -----Original Message----- From: Marian Dietrich <myrnnch@cinci.rr.com> To: ohhamilt@rootsweb.com Sent: Sun, Jun 13, 2010 3:43 pm Subject: Re: [OHHAMILT] Hamilton Co. 3. Marie Underwood - Citation Cincinnati Enquirer 08/13/1992 B4:6 Death Notice You can request copies of newspaper articles - death notices/obits - from the Cincy Library by calling the number listed below and they can usually email a scanned copy to you. Your are only allowed 3 requests per phone call, limited to one phone call request in the morning and one in the afternoon. I have had wonderful, wonderful luck with the great people at this library. "We have an established procedure for obtaining copies of articles or obits for which citations are available. The fastest way to get copies for items for which you have exact citations (such as the ones found in Newsdex http://newsdex.cincinnatilibrary.org/uhtbin/cgisirsi/x/0/0/49) would be to call 513-369-6973 and tell the person who answers what you need. Using this method will usually allow us to process your item within one to two business days. Give them your exact citation(s), your e-mail address if you are requesting e-mail delivery, your mailing address (necessary for back-up methods of delivery), phone number (in case we need to contact you re any questions/problems), and if applicable, your fax number. Phone requests are limited to 3 citations per phone call, two phone calls per day, one before noon and one after noon. Larger lists of citations may require multiple phone calls over several days. This limit is necessary because we get hundreds of requests per month, and have a limited number of staff. There is no one assigned exclusively to this task. The personnel taking the orders are the same ones who are simultaneously staffing the public reference desk. Larger lists of citations may require multiple phone calls over several days. We can deliver the document to you in one of three possible ways. 1. We can usually make a scanned copy of it via a new program we have and e-mail it to you. We will not know if it is possible to deliver any specific document via this method until we actually look at the original document. Sometimes the clarity of older documents can be inconsistent. The copies that result from this process are sometimes not extremely clear when the quality of the original is poor. This happens most often with documents that are in microform format. When this occurs, it is best to simply make a print copy from the microfilm/fiche and mail the print copy to you. If you request this method of delivery, and we find that it is not going to work, we will let you know via phone or e-mail if we are going to send it via an alternative method. However, e-mail is the only method of delivery that is free." ----- Original Message ----- From: "Carol" <cdecker@bluemarble.net> To: <OHHAMILT@rootsweb.com> Sent: Tuesday, June 08, 2010 12:23 AM Subject: [OHHAMILT] Underwood > Looking for information on the wife and decendants of William R. > Underwood. 1. [OHHAMILT] Fwd: book signing
    2. Barbara Gargiulo
    3. Hi everyone, Marilyn gave me permission to post this announcement. I wanted to let you know that if you are still thinking of a perfect Father's Day gift (or birthday gift or gift for yourself) then you may want to consider the book that we just published late last year called *In Their Honor: The Men Behind the Names of Our Military Installations*, by Linda D. Swink. (Hardbound with dust jacket--$39.95) Linda was in the U.S. Air Force for 15 years, her husband was in the U.S. Army for 10 years, and her father was a U.S. Marine. As she went to the various bases, airfields, etc. and asked what that person did to be honored to have a millitary establishment named after them, she found that most, of all ranks, did not know. So she set out to discover the answer and has included 524 brief biographies of these men and their backgrounds and accomplishments. The book has been well recieved and has a foreword by Major General Mechenbier. It is currently being considered for an Army Historical award. We will know this month. Linda is schedule to sign the book at *Joseph Beth Booksellers* in Cincinnati, Ohio, tomorrow (*Monday, June 7, 2010*) at *7:00 p.m.* If you cannot make it and want to have a signed copy for a gift (or yourself), I have several copies in my office. You may read more about it on my Web site at www.littlemiamibooks.com and see a photo of the beautiful cover at www.bn.com (Barnes and Noble Web site). This is a most interesting read and the short biographies mean you can skip around and just pick up on any page and find an interesting story. I hope to see you at Joseph Beth tomorrow. Please contact me if you have any questions. 3. Kathleen, Is this the William J. Toulster who married Eva Carter. I can't access the death certificate online currently the site says the copy is unavailable. But the listing shows him as dying in 1867 rather than 1876 and in checking Spring Grove Cemetery's records, they also show him as dying 9/11/1867. Was the 1876 perhaps a typo, or was this a different William Toulster? Let me know & I'll keep searching. Otherwise, it's possible the his mother was Margaret (Maggie McLaughlin ) Toulster. Thomas TOULSTER's wife margaret, died in Dec 1874. The next marriage I have for him is in July 1879 to Mary MANNING. I have a death certificate for a William TOULSTER, son of Thomas stating he was born August 11 1876. TOULSTER is an unusual surname. I have addresses for Thomas from the Cincinnati City Directories for the year 1875 at 224 1/2 Broadway, 1876 192 Sycamore, 1877 21 North, and 1878 @ 34 e. 6th street. question--1. is there a chance there would be a birth certificate? 2. Which Catholic church would have been in the vicinity of those addreses. When he married in 1979, he married at St. Philmena's Any ideas would be appreciated. If anyone needs some help with St. Louis, Missouri research, maybe I can be of help Kay Toulster Weber To contact the List Administrator, send an email to: Kaesemein@aol.com Did you miss a message?
