Wayne, You probably already know this, but just in case you don't...go to the web page listed after this paragraph, enter Hilshorst as surname, select "13-17" on the year index and type in Hamilton for the county. On the left, you can click on the details of obtaining a death certificate which should give you info like parents names and other information of interest. http://www.ohiohistory.org/dindex/ Here's the info you should see: HILSHORST HAROLD E County Name: HAMILTON Date of Death: 7/14/1914 Volume Number: 1413 Certificate Number: 39493 1. I checked the 1910 census for Hamilton Co and found three young men but no Harold. However, I did find two whose given name begins with the letter E: Edward a boarder age 20, was born in OH. Ernest, 25, born in KY, lives with his wife Fannie and three children, William, Edna and David. 2. Other Hilshort's in Hamilton Co. OH: Mary Hilshorst, 45, and her daughter Edna, 21, are listed as mother-in-law and sister-in-law of David L. Smith. David, 27, is married to Eva M. Smith, 23, and they have a daughter Dorothy who is just under 2 years old. Mary and Edna were both born in OH (according to this census). Birthplace for Eva is listed as KY. Emma Hilshorst, a 47-year-old widow who lives alone. Emma's birthplace is listed as Indiana. 3. The only other Hilshorst in the 1910 U. S. census: Henry Hilshorst, 49, living across the river Ohio River from Cincinnati in Kenton County KY with wife Mary, 39, and sister Elizabeth, 42. Henry and his sister were listed as KY births. His wife Mary was listed as an OH birth. Good Luck, John Otto Va. Lori, do you have a middle initial for him? There are quite a few Wm Martins and W. Martins listed in the 1876 Cincinnati City Directory. Here's Nellie from the 1876 Cincinnati City Directory: Nellie Ryan, dress maker, bds. 48 Lodge. Phyllis -----Original Message----- Looking for William MARTIN. I'm trying to establish how long he had been in the Cincinnati area prior to 1880. I should mention his age in 1880 was 24. Also tracking the woman that became his wife in 1880, Ellen "Nellie" RYAN.
Chris, here are some bits and pieces related to LEWARK/LUARK. I found Rose in the 1928/29 Cincinnati City Directory, but by 1941 she is no longer listed. From the 1928/1929 Cincinnati City Directory: Rose Lewark, seamstress, h. rear 218 E. 18th. No LUARKs listed. From the 1941 Cincinnati City Directory: No Lewarks listed. No Luarks listed. I am working on the Soelheim line and have Conrad Soelheim--b. abt 1836, from Bavaria, naturalized in Dubois Co., IN, md twice-- 1. Elisabeth Steger (1839- bef 1870)-- one daughter to survive-- Katherine, b. 1858 2. Minnie (md bef 1870 census) In 1860 Conrad and Elizabeth were in Benton Co., MO, he is listed as a physician. In 1870 & 1880 Conrad and Minnie are in Hamilton Co., OH. By 1880 Katherine is not with them. I would like anything at all on this line. I don't know when the family went to OH or when Elizabeth died, or when he married Minnie. Can someone do marriage look-ups on these folks? The Hamilton Co marriages are not online at ancestry. I would also like to know who Katherine married, if she did marry. The Steger line ties into my Mehringer lines. Thanks so much. Hi Folks, I'm wondering if anyone has access to Cincinnati directories for 1880 and working backwards from there. Looking for William MARTIN. In 1880, he was living on Longworth St. in a boarding house of some sort. He was employed as a waiter at Hunt's Hotel. I'm trying to establish how long he had been in the Cincinnati area prior to 1880. I should mention his age in 1880 was 24. Also tracking the woman that became his wife in 1880, Ellen "Nellie" RYAN. In 1880 she was living in the Charles Taft household and listed as a servant, age 20. I don't know how and even if she would be listed, but figured it's worth a shot. Again, working backwards from 1880. Thanks so much in advance, Lori

Pat, I found a reference to Joseph Oehler at Ancestry.com in the Family/Local History section. It is from this book which had several volumes. Cincinnati, the Queen City : 1788-1912. Goss, Charles Frederic,. Chicago. S.J. Clarke Pub. Co.. 1912. It is located in Vol. 3 pg. 184. In summary, it has the biography of Joseph L. Roth who was mother was Mr. Margaret Roth. Margaret Roth was the daughter of Joseph Oelher, granddaughter of Simon Oehler. Also, there reference to Simon Oehler in the same book different volume. Simon is referenced in Vol. 1 pg. 526. Briefly, it says that Simon and 3 other families arrived on Sept. 24 from Germany. The year was 1817. I hope this helps.
