If my memory serves me well, I believe we found his ancestor buried at Spring Grove Cemetery. I thought I had posted the information to the Hamilton County site but it may have gone directly to Gene. In addition to Joan's good suggestions, be sure to check the Spring Grove Cemetery web site as many Civil War participators were buried there and the information usually gives parent's names and cause of death. In addition to NARA there are individual researchers in Washington DC who will copy Civil War Records, usually more quickly than NARA and for less money. Phyllis
Have read Ham. Co. Probate "Abstracts" of Book 1 and Book A, 1791-1826, and wish to also read the actual records of several entries concerning McClelland/Marshall/Barr, etc., who resided in the Springdale area during this time period. Where would I find these records, please? Thank you. Judith Watt State College, PA __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Tired of spam? Yahoo! Hi, They told me the same thing when I was looking for the birth record of James Morton TALLEY who was born in Cincinnati, OH on , I believe, 10 Feb 1866. They suggested church records. But I don't know the religion of his parents. Did the newspapers then have birth announcements? C.K., Do you have information telling you what church or religion the OSMONDs belonged to? Perhaps church records will help. ******************************************* Patricia A. I also searched back through the list's archives and found information that many Civil War Burials are at Spring Grove Cemetery and Wesleyan Cemetery. Have you checked their online burial records? The National Park Service also has a web site with information about those who served in the Civil War: http://www.itd.nps.gov/cwss/soldiers.htm I would welcome any other comments from list subscribers who are knowledgable about Civil War history and records, since my memory is a little fuzzy on that topic at the moment. Is there anyone on this list related to William or Mignonette Smith? I am guessing that William was born about 1850 and Mignonette about 1880. This is only a guess however. Phyllis G.
Hi Phyllis, I don't think they're in business any longer. I checked the recent phone book and business yellow pages, and there's no listing for them. Since I'm having too many "senior moments" these days, <smile> I can't even remember when they may have gone out of business or been bought out by another jeweler in the city. You might try checking the Cinti. Enquirer web page www.enquirer.com and enter Oskamp-Nolting in their search engine to see if any articles show up from recent years...........or a google search might also yield some information. Thanks Marilyn. Good idea! I know they were still in business in the 1960's, but after that I'm not sure. I did look at what came up with Google, but it was more a history of the founders...very interesting, but no mention of what happened to it. When I lived in Cincinnati, I remember a very old cemetery in the area of Lunken Airport in the eastern part. I believe that area was called Columbia at one time. You might want to check it out. Some of the old settlers were buried there. I can't remember exactly where it is but I believe it is along Airport Rd. somewhere near Lunken Airport. Yvonne
