    3. Lori, I would look into the headstone if I were you. I only speak from experience, but my brother served in the Army but didn't have combat duty and his sons said they could get a stone for him. But, they procrastinated long enough that my father got impatient and bought one since he and my mother will be in the same plot and it is large enough to put all their names on it. My brother served in the early 60's. We had a Veteran's presentation at his burial, so I would think if he was qualified for that he would be qualified for the headstone. Doesn't hurt anything to look into it. Joan Williams Lori Nichols wrote: >Hi Ann, > >How are you? 1. Re: [OH-HAMILT] both sides of the Ohio River
    2. Hi; Been a long time since I was a Greater Cincinnati resident, but I don't remember hearing "tri-county" as much as "tri-state" area. Ohio, Kentucky and Indiana, of course. And I do understand and agree with all the messages about extending family research into various nearby states and counties. It's a very good point to make for those people who are not familiar with Cincinnati and Hamilton County. In research efforts, I have found people whose relatives knew only they were "from" Cincinnati whose previous generation ancestors were born in Dearborn Co. IN, or Kenton/Campbell/Boone Counties, KY, or Adams/Brown/Clermont Counties, OH. And then there is Maysville (Mason Co. KY). It all seems to be connected with various migratory patterns, and crossing the Ohio River at different points. For instance, in a daughter-in-law's family, I found a marriage connecting a Mason Co. KY man to a Brown County OH woman. And then they moved on into Kansas! Knowing this has, by the way, made me more aware of the need to become familiar with maps of other areas I might not be familiar with. Similar situations do exist elsewhere. Best, Ann Bergelt Florida

    2. I agree! My grandmother, Edna GLITSCH, was born in Cincinnati in 1894, and both her parents (Andrew GLITSCH and Emma Sophie NIEMEYER) had died by 1903. So, when I couldn't find them in the 1900 Hamilton County census, I was really sad --- until I found them in Kenton County, KY! It was wonderful to see the only evidence of the family while it was still intact. So, check out those counties! 2. I too have ancestors that went from one side of the Ohio to the other, particularly noted: Scioto, Brown Counties Ohio and Green and Greenup Counties, KY. My ADLOFF cousin said that on many days when the river was low you could walk from Ohio to KY. My grandmother and family WEISKOPF and GUNTER used rowboats to go from Hamilton County to Rome, Ohio to a cousin's watermelon farm and have fun for a day or two before going back. I wonder what it is like to do that today or if you would even want to. Ca 1850 Henry Fess w/wife Barbara Herring married and were living in Colerain, Hamilton, OH (were on census w/last name misspelled FEST). Henry showed as being b ca 1822, B ca abt 1831 w/baby Jacob under a year old. Henry's b date really 1808, born poss in PA, poss Germany/Alsace/Switzerland. In the same 1850 census there were other Fest families, including Barbara Fess who married a Root and is listed as Root w/daughter Louisa Root and several Fesses, Frederick, Henry, etc. Possible these other Fests were actually Fesses, w/names misspelled as w/my Henry. Need to know of other FESS/FEST families living in Hamilton county ca 1850. Need to know of any known relationship between my Henry and the other FESTs/FESSes. Any help with this would be appreciated. By the way, my Henry/Barbara moved to Allen county and Henry died there 1866; Barbara remarried Andrew J. Richey, had 2 more children one of whom died young (Elzy died; Minta lived). Only known record of Henry is their marriage record 1849 Hamilton county and Henry's tombstone and my finding their 1850 census record. Any help would be appreciated. And, really want to hear from any FESS/FEST descendants, either to see if our lines connect or at least to know for sure they do not and eliminate them. Thank you. Pavla Chandler

    3. There is a listing for a Henry Ferd in the 1860 Federal Census in Auglaize Twonship (Post Office West Minsths?) on page 176 and 177. Henry Fers age 38 born in PA B. Fers age 27 born in OH J. Fers age 10 male born in OH E. Fers age 9 female born in OH Wm Fers age 5 male born in OH L. Fers age 3 male born in OH J. Fers age 10/12 male born in OH Only the first initial was giving for the family members but being that the wife's name began with a "B" it could possibly be Barbara same for the letter "J" for Jacob. 3. Another suggestion in addition to Linda's hard work to get the information out there: if you have access to a library with a good genealogy collection, it would be worth checking there to see if they have any of the books you are interested in. -----Original Message----- From: Linda Boorom [mailto:lboorom@fuse.net] Sent: Friday, June 17, 2005 8:00 PM To: OHHAMILT-L@rootsweb.com Subject: Hamilton County Reference Books To everyone who may be interested in knowing where to find Hamilton County Reference books, I've spent the past few days doing a bit of research & compiling a list of what is available & links to those websites where you can order. I've also included a few things that are out of print, but have been advised by Barbara, the Hamilton County Chapter, OGS, Publications Director that some will be reprinted this year! I've set up a web page on the Hamilton Co. OHGenWeb site with all of the information. You will find the new page here: http://www.rootsweb.com/~ohhamilt/books.html I welcome additions & corrections :-) Linda Boorom co-coordinator Hamilton Co., OHGenWeb. -- No virus found in this outgoing message.
