Do you suppose the older issues of the Kentucky Times Star wrote little notices about family members visiting their kin in Hamilton County, Ohio? Is the Kenton County Library in Covington the only place that has microfilm copies of the newspaper? Do you know if the library would do look-ups for us who live a distance away? And would you have the mailing address for the Library? Thanks ~ Barbara in Indianapolis bob <bgband@cinci.rr.com> wrote: The Cincinnati and Kentucky Times Star are two different papers. Kennett, I happened to go searching this past week for pictures of baseball teams connected to Cincinnati and/or history of baseball in Cincinnati because I rec'd a message from a guy in Beech Grove IN (Indianapolis vicinity) with a team picture of a team ca 1926. After a bit of searching I have confirmed that it was taken at Redlands Field, later known at Crosley Field by the buildings in the back ground. This particular team from Beechwood was a league associated (it seems) with "New York Central League" or "Big 4 Athletic League", both connected to the RR. Perhaps some union thing or not, I don't know, there is very little, but at least a little that I was able to find online that mentioned the RR & baseball. I'm not that knowledgeable about baseball, but perhaps there were a number of little known leagues back then? In my searches, it seems even the baseball websites don't know enough in that time period ...... If you'd like to send me your team photo to put online at the Hamilton Co OHGenWeb & ALHN page with our unidentified photo's, perhaps someone somewhere........ This probably doesn't help except to let you know you are not alone. <grin> Linda ----- Original Message ----- From: <KennettW@aol.com> To: <OHHAMILT-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Tuesday, July 19, 2005 10:02 AM Subject: Re: [OH-HAMILT] Old Photo's link &baseball > Joan, > > Glad that the site can help you. Hello, I just joined this list. I've begun researching my new daughter-in-law's family from the Cincinnati/Wyoming area of Ohio. Thus far I have found David C. JONES in the 1910, 1920 and 1930 census residing in Wyoming Village, Springfield Township, Hamilton County. He was a vice president of iron and brass manufacturing company. Anybody familiar with that name? Ernestine Wark, NJ
Joan, Glad that the site can help you. My grandfather was born and raised in Cincinnati. His wife was from Dayton, Ky. After a few years in Dayton, Ky. they moved to Middletown, Ohio and remained there for the rest of their lives. I am still looking for information on a baseball semi pro team in Cincinnati called the Reserves. My grandfather Brengelman was a left handed pitcher for them. Of course, I realize there were many teams in Cincinnati before the national leagues began to form. The Baseball Hall of Fame had no information on such a team, however I have a large photo of the team in their uniforms. Does anyone out there know of someone who has researched the semi-pro teams before the Red Stockings? Kennett

Kennett, Thank you so very much for telling us about this website. My father was born in Burlington and I have ancestors who lived in Florence, Union and Walton. I have been sitting for hours looking at pictures. I found in the history of the Walton Christian Churches several family members mentioned. Gggrandfather Stephen Waite, ggrandmother, Mrs. J C Cross, and ggaunts and uncles. I knew they were part of the history of the church, but to see it in writing was exciting. I have printed the information to send to my father, who is 85. I know he will enjoy reading this. I also printed the information for the Burlington Christian Church because it stated that one of the preachers was a Vardiman. My ggrandmother was a Vardiman and there has been some family lore of her father being a preacher, but the story wasn't very clear. This may help me to research this more deeply and see if this is her father. I still have more to look at and hope to find more of my relatives.
