Hi; I don't know if this is really pertinent to the search, but HeritageQuest has the family head in 1870 census (Tuscawaras Co OH) indexed as Joseph "Thedebure". However, the same person in the same place in 1870 is indexed as "Fredenburg" which seems a little more probable. They were in the PO area of Ulrichsville. Ann

My 1860 census shows a Joseph BROWNING age 17, born 1842 living in Tuscarawas Co. Is it possible he moved from Hamilton Co.? He's working as a farm laborer for a Joseph HEDENBUSS or THEDEBUSS or FREDENBURR (?) Handwriting is hard to read. Was Amy born in Hamilton Co? Were they married in Hamilton Co? Amy wasn't a common name in 1840. Do you know if it was a nickname for something else? Amanda? or Abigail? I found the same Joseph BROWNING in 1870, still in Tuscarawas Co. with a wife Lorana and children Frank and Clark Marilyn --------------------original messages------------------- I am having trouble finding info on a Joseph C.Browning born in Cin.Ohio.I know when he was born but can not find any thing else about him.Census or any thing.Does any one have any suggestions Joseph C.Browning was born Jan.15,1840 Cin.Ohio.He married Amy (Passmore)Rinier on Nov.25,1866.She was born Jan.18,1840.

Charles Ludwig's book "Playmates of the Towpath" contains a map of the Canal. In the area of what is now Colerain and Monmouth is a rectangle Labeled 'House Refuge'. This would be on the west side of the canal. A lot of burials were done at Wesleyan Cemetery for individuals that called the House of Refuge their residence. In fact, Wesleyan had a Section dedicated to interments from the House of Refuge, down along the south side fronting on Hoffner Street. Bob S

You didn't mention what kind of information you are seeking about this family, but if you are new to genealogy research, you can't just send a surname of a family to a mailing list and expect other members of the list to do all the research in a 60 year time span and send it back to you. You will need to give specific names of which families you're seeking and what kind of information you want. Some of our list members might be able to give you the information you want or offer suggestions on how to find it. You need to work your way through the information year by year. I can give you a list of BINGLE/BRINGLE heads of household that are in the census indexes. You can then subscribe to the OH-CENSUS-LOOKUP mailing list and request the information for each family -- one at a time. Thank you for all your sugestions, a nice lady from Florida named Ann has helped me with a lot of general information. I was not asking anyone to do my research, I was asking for help in finding the parents of My John Henry Bingle. In his civil war records he says he was born in Hamilton County Ohio. Sally
Jackie; I believe you are talking about Mt. Alverno. It was a facility run by "the brothers", what order I do not remember. However, a few years ago, I believe there was another conversation about it on this list -- you may find more information in the list archives. And there is also some history, etc. somewhere on the internet -- try browsing for it using the "Mt. Alverno Home for Boys" as a clue. Best wishes, Ann Bergelt Florida
I have a question for the list... Does anyone know anything about this facility? 1900 Ohio, Hamilton County, Roll 1278 Book 1, Page 304 Protectory for Boys, Delhi Twsp. Two of my GG Grandfather's children from his third marriage were in this facility in 1900. Was it an orphanage or some type of foster care facility? The family story is that my GG Grandfather abandoned his third wife and his children by her when she became ill. Both he and the mother of the boys were alive when the boys were in the Protectory for Boys. Hi, Does anyone know how to obtain Civil War records for an ancestor who served in the Ohio National Guard? My researcher in Washington DC said he could not obtain them there because they are not from the regular service. He thought that I could get the records for National Guard service in Ohio. I've been searching and searching the Internet but haven't found where I could send for them. Thanks for any help, Sincerely, Susan
