    1. Re: [OH-HAMILT] MRS. ALBERT (SUSANNA) MULLER/MILLER
    2. Hi. Just saw the postings re the above, thought I'd take a look. I do have Ancestry.com. Before I looked up the 1900 census, though, I decided to check out the 1910 listing. There is information listed on it that's important: It reads that Albert & Susan had been married 12 years, giving you a tentative marriage date of 1898. Also it says they have 0/0 kids, meaning never having any to this point. Beyond this, it says that they came to the US in 1903. Given that, they should not appear on the 1900 census anyway. Their ethnicity is given as Hun - German (Hungarian/German). I looked at the 1900 census & there are some Albert Mullers listed in different counties but I did not see your set. I have access to some immigration records; I'll look at them now & see if I can find Albert Muller listed as having immigrated. My records are not all-inclusive so I may not be able to find them, but I'll try. Pavla Chandler Texas

    3. Denise, I found them on the 1910 census living on Race Street. Albert Muller was 37 and Susan was 36; however, there were no children listed for them. My uncle, Michael Wilhelm, was a boarder in their home. There were two other Albert Mullers on the census but I didn't look them up. I do not have Ancestry so could not check the 1900 census from home. 1. Re: "We Care" Packages to "Katrina Survivors" - Off Topic
    2. Carolyn Kranz
    3. Betty & All, Please, please, please don't send packages to the post office. I live in Florida and survived Ivan last year, Dennis this year and I can tell you, sometimes mail delivery doesn't start again for months. All those well-meant packages could wind up sitting is the post office and never reach the intended recipients. Plus, they will take up space needed to store the regular mail that can't be delivered. The best way to help is to contribute to the major relief agencies: United Way or Red Cross. Or, it you don't want to do that, look around your community for churches and REPUTABLE civic organizations collecting needed items and money for the relief effort. The benefit to using these agencies is that you can be assured your contribution will reach those in need. I received assistance from folks in Mississippi last year after Ivan devastated our area and I fully intend to return the favor through contributions to my church's collection efforts. My church is also organizing trips to the area to assist with clean up efforts. But it is being coordinated with the relief agencies there. If your community or church is planning to help in this way and you have some time to contribute, please consider traveling with an organized group to help. Thank you so much for your concern and desire to help. Just be sure the help you give will reach those in need. 2. Gloria, I forgot to include that I looked at the application for the widow's pension and it was filed on Oct. 2, 1890. Widow: Dora Cotty Name: John Cotty , Enlistment Date: 13 November 1861 Distinguished Service: DISTINGUISHED SERVICE Side Served: Union State Served: Ohio Unit Numbers: 1703 1703 Service Record: Enlisted as a Private on 13 November 1861 at the age of 34 Enlisted in _Company D, 4th Cavalry Regiment Ohio_ (http://search.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/sse.dll?&ti=0&db=hdsregiment&f0=1703&f11=Union) on 25 November 1861. Mustered out _Company D, 4th Cavalry Regiment Ohio_ (http://search.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/sse.dll?&ti=0&db=hdsregiment&f0=1703&f11=Union) on 15 November 1864 in Columbia, TN Here's a description of the Regiment and battles fought. The ones with double asterisks (**) have descriptions. Let me know if you want those. Regiment: 4th Cavalry Regiment OH Date Mustered: 15 July 1865 Regiment Type: Cavalry Enlisted Died of Disease or Accident: 5 Officers Died of Disease or Accident: 50 Enlisted Killed or Mortally Wounded: 1 History: Fourth Cavalry. - Cols., John Kennett, Eli Long, Lieut.- Cols., Henry W. Burdsal, John L. Pugh, Oliver P. Robie, George W. Dobb; Majs., James E. Dresbach, Henry C. Rogers, Canduce G. Megrue, Robert E. Rogers, Peter Mathews, James Thomson. This regiment was organized at Camp Dennison and Camp Gurley in Nov. 1861, (with the exception of Cos. L and M which were organized on Aug. 15, 1862, at Cincinnati) to serve for three years. The regiment, composed of ten companies, with 1,070 men, embarked for Jeffersonville, Ind., in Dec., 1861, then crossed into Kentucky and advanced to Bacon creek, having been assigned to the 3d division, Gen. O. M. Mitchel commanding. At Bowling Green it succeeded in capturing a train loaded with a large amount of supplies which the Confederates were endeavoring to move south. In March John Morgan captured the forage train as it was returning to camp from Nashville, with about 30 men and 80 horses, but Col. Kennett pursued recaptured all the men but 12 and all the horses but 16. The regiment advanced to Hunts- ville, Ala., where it arrived at daybreak, charged into the town and captured a train, loaded with 800 Confederate sol- diers, also 17 locomotives and many cars. It was in the 2 hours' fighting at Bridgeport, Ala.; where the Confederates were routed and many of them killed and captured. The regiment accompanied the unfortunate expedition toward Lexington, Ky., when John Morgan, with 2,800 men, surrounded the command and in a short time 250 of the regiment were surrendered, robbed, pa- roled and on their way to Ohio. The regiment participated in the battle of Stone's river, then pursued the enemy toward Shelbyville, Tenn., and on its return camped near Murfreesboro. It was frequently engaged in skirmishing and was on scouting expeditions to Liberty, Lebanon and Alexandria. With the 3d Ohio cavalry, at Snow Hill in April, 1863, it routed three regiments of Confederate cavalry, with a loss of 3 wounded and 4 captured. In May it was again engaged in an expedition against a force of Confederate cavalry at Middleton, attacked them at daybreak and drove them from their camps, which were burned. The regiment was engaged on the extreme right of the army at Chickamauga, with a loss of 32 killed, wounded and missing. Then the second battalion marched into East Tennes- see, made a raid on Cleveland, captured a large number of pris- oners, and burned a shot, shell and cap factory. Having re-en- listed as a veteran organization and been furloughed home, the regiment was again at the front in the spring of 1864. It moved to Courtland, Ala., thence to Moulton, where at reveille the Confederate Gen. Roddey, with four regiments and two bat- talions of cavalry and 4 pieces of artillery, attacked the bri- gade, but after two hours' hard fighting was driven pelf-mell from the field, the regiment losing 10 men wounded, 1 mortally. It was in the advance on Jonesboro, Ga.; took part in the fighting at Lovejoy's Station; actively participated in the Wilson raid through Alabama and Georgia in the spring of 1865, and in the charge at Selma, Ala., lost about 50 men killed and wounded. Engagements also occurred at Montgomery, Ala., and Macon, Ga. The regiment did guard duty at the latter place until ordered home to be mustered out, this event occurring on July 15, 1865. 1. HURRICANE/poss. help/please read & d/n delete
    2. Hello. This is not genealogy so I'll keep it short; hope it's ok I'm putting this on here, list mom/dad (assume we have one). Many have been wondering what they can individually do to help the victims of the Hurricane. Many too have been concerned about help even getting to people. I am one such. I want to advise any/all who want to help to call your local Mormon Churches (Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints). I am Mormon and through our church leadership we get regular updates on what's going on. I am in Northeast Texas and as I'm sure you know, we have received at least 25,000 in Houston and I think the same in San Antonio w/more no doubt on the way; I even know of folks who have arrived in Tyler, Texas within 45 minutes of me. As of exactly 35 minutes ago (1:15 p.m. Texas time) a call has just gone out to church members to bring specific items to our local churches; hygiene kits are going to be assembled. We've been asked to have things in by Sat or Sun for assembling and shipping immediately to Houston. While I do not know if all LDS Churches in Ohio & other states have just gotten the same call we have, it is possible - hence, this email for any/all of you hoping to do something to help! Again, sorry this off the subject of genealogy but I felt it sufficiently important to post. Hope that's ok & that it goes through. I will not be doing any other posting, so that's it for being off-genealogy. Have a good day/weekend! Pavla Chandler Texas

    2. Hello Folks, This topic is NOT to be discussed on the list, but a Message Board has been set up by rootsweb.com for anyone searching for missing relatives/friends in the hurricane area. As we spread the word about this Message Board, it is hoped that those who have power or wireless laptops may be able to relay messages from displaced loved ones. 1. "We Care" Packages to "Katrina Survivors" - Off Topic

    3. Hello, I must be one of only of tens of millions of people SOOO Frustrated at watching all the News programs of people .. dying in front of our eyes .. while waiting for "drinking water" or any kind of liquid which is drinkable to arrive at the Louisiana Superdome ! And, as of last night, two "infants" have died of dehydration there ! This week I've already posted on the MA List that I would really like to go by a 20-pack of ..Toilet Paper.. and ship it down there ! The more I watch the News, though, I see where "basic human needs" go way beyond toilet paper. They need FOOD and medicine. They need .. diapers and baby food and formula .. and senior citizens need diapers, also ! They need ..DRY.. clothes ... including undergarments ! How many of us have food, medicine, and "sanitary products" in our homes - which we don't really need ? How many of us have clothes in our home which we really don't need ! Do you have summer clothes you bought this year which you might not wear next summer ? Those people in Louisiana and Mississippi have probably been "living in" the same pair of shorts and t-shirt and underwear .. for a week ! And, they probably arrived at whereever they are being "sheltered" -- soaking wet ! My suggestion is to go to the supermarkets and/or stores and pick up their unwanted cardboard boxes .. and start .. filling them up ! Or, I've found out that "banker's boxes" at the office-supply stores are good for sending packages. I went to www.switchboard.com and found out the address: "Katrina Survivors" c/o Louisiana Superdome 1500 Poydras St New Orleans, LA 70112 OR, we could just send our "we care" packages to the following address: "Katrina Survivors" c/o, the Postmaster New Orleans, LA 70112 Even if the New Orleans Post Office has been destroyed, the packages should go to their "regional Post Office" - and they can decide what to do with them ! And, ... wouldn't it be nice .. if the United States Postal Service .. would allow us to mail our "we care" packages ... for free ! And, the same goes for .. UPS .. and FED EX ... I had occasion to want to use UPS to mail 2 packages at different times to Europe ... and I was "SHOCKED" at how much they wanted to charge me ! $50 for a very small, lightweight package, and $350 for a medium-heavy "banker's box." .... I know very well that the "American Red Cross" NEEDS money, and they "always" say ... DO NOT ..send "care packages." BUT ..... this is different ! In our adult lifetime, we have not seen and heard about .. such wide-spread DESTRUCTION .. and -- human need ! If you cannot send "we care" packages, then I have found that even www.ebay.com is offering a way to "contribute" to the American Red Cross - whether you are a Seller or a Buyer. I will be sending this message to other "State" Lists which I belong to ! Please feel free to pass my "request / suggestion" along to whichever Lists you belong to ! A SEPARATE SUGGESTION? Sit down and write a letter to these families - tell them we DO care ! Offer them as much sympathy as you can ! I'll bet that right now those 10,000 - Plus - people .. feel "totally isolated" from the rest of their State - and definitely isolated from the rest of the U.S. ! And, please say a sincere prayer to "your Higher Being" .. that food and drinking water .. get to "Katrina survivors" -- YESTERDAY ! And, not arriving for the first time - this coming weekend ! Betty (near Lowell, MA)
