    3. It sounds as if you have already checked many of the city directories so I will only add that which I believe might help you. I will start with the earliest and then move forward in time. These are all Cincinnati City Directories unless otherwise noted: 1843: Roger Lamont (L. & Anderson) corner of Mansfield and Northern Run. Hugh Lamont, tailor, Main between 8th and 9th David Lamont pattern maker, Mansfield st. 1849/50: Lamont & Anderson, merchant tailors 353 Main Roger Lamont (L. and Anderson), e.s. (stands for east side) Mansfield. 1856 City Guide and Business Mirror: No Lamont & Anderson listed under tailors. No Anderson listed alone either. 1863 (incomplete due to Civil War): No Lamonts listed No Lamont & Anderson listed either. 1. [OHHAMILT] Lamont and Anderson Merchant tailors
    2. Alison McIntyre
    3. James Lamont and William Anderson came to the U. S. in 1832. By 1834 the company "Lamont and Anderson, Merchant Tailors" is found in the Cincinnati directory. In 1837 Hugh Lamont, David Lamont and his wife Margaret, and Roger Lamont came to Cincinnati. Hugh, James, and Roger were tailors, David was a machinist I believe that James, David and Roger are brothers and that Hugh is their father. I have Hugh Lamont's bible and the ages of the three boys agree with the birth dates given there. I'm hoping to find obituaries or church records to confirm this. James, Hugh and Roger died before the Ohio death records began. Hugh may have died in Kentucky since he was living there in the 1850 census. Roger, his wife and two daughters are buried in Wesleyan Cemetery. In an 1839-1840 Cincinnati city directory James, Hugh, Roger and William Anderson are with Lamont and Anderson and David is a pattern-maker at D. A. Powell's (a foundry). The 1840 Census shows David Lamont and William Anderson, each with a wife and one child. Only heads of households are listed by name that year. The others are probably rooming somewhere and thus do not show up in the census. The 1842 city directory lists only David and Robert (probably Roger). In the 1850 census Hugh and Martha Lamont; and David with Margaret Lamont and four children are living in Newport, Kentucky. Newport is just across the Ohio River from Cincinnati. Roger Lamont with Elizabeth and two daughters; and William Anderson with a wife, Jane, and four children are living in Cincinnati. Since James Lamont is not shown either in the 1850 census or the 1842 city directory, he probably died before 1842. In the 1860 census Elizabeth Lamont and Jane Anderson are shown with their children. There is no column that year for marital status but is likely that Roger Lamont and William Anderson have died. David and his family are in Winnebago County, Illinois, and I have not been able to find Hugh. If someone has access to other years of the city directories, I would like to know when the company, "Lamont and Anderson, Merchant Tailors", disappears. I would also appreciate any suggestions for documenting the deaths of James and Hugh Lamont. Thanks for any help, Alison McIntyre

    1. [OHHAMILT] GOULD families in Cincinnati
    2. Mike Gould
    3. Hello, Can anyone help me to find out more about some GOULD families in Cincinnati? I'm not familiar with researching USA records, so I'm not sure what is available. In 1870, William GOULD is head of a household in Cincinnati (page 48 of census). He is 64 years old, an ale agent, and born in England. Sarah PAYNE, aged 66, a widow, is keeping house. In the same house are Katie GOULD, aged 10, Henry C GOULD, aged 8, and Lillie M GOULD, aged 6. My guess is that the children are grandchildren of William. If so, is there any way of finding out who their parents were ? Is there any way of finding out from where in England William came ? As an ale agent, would he have had to register his personal details, and if so, how likely is it that these records would have survived ? I'm trying to determine whether he is "my" William GOULD, who was born in Somerset, England, and married Hannah CLARKE in the small village of Chewton Mendip in Somerset in 1828. They had children John (1830), George (1833), Alfred (1835), Ann (1839), Elizabeth (1841) and William (1844). I know the whereabouts of John, Alfred, Ann & Elizabeth, but what happened to George and William jnr is still a mystery to me. Alfred was in First Ward, Cuyahoga, Ohio in 1870, so it would not surprise me to find his brothers or father in Ohio somewhere. All suggestions or information gratefully received. Best wishes, Mike Gould Leicestershire, England

    3. Hi, I am researching my GGGreat Grandpa Thomas Conant Tuttle. He was married March of 1836 in Hamilton Co Ohio to Elizabeth Francis Anderson. I am trying to find what ship Thomas would have gotten to Cincinnati on. A letter states that Thomas Left Maine in Feb of 1835 " Thomas then shipped before the Mast on the High Seas on Coast Wise Trado then secured a birth aboard a Mississippi Steam Boat between New Orleans and St Louis" Thomas left Maine, Penobscot Maine in Feb 1835 and was married March of 1836 ,this is about a year. I am trying to find what ship he was on that took him from Maine to Cincinnati ,and what Steam Boat he was on from Mississippi to Ohio? He was in Hamilton County Ohio for over 15 years and in 1852 packed up the family and went to Indiana, I know he was a Ships Carpenter and First Mate,He is listed in a directory in Hamilton as Ships Carpenter living near the ship yards. I know two of the Steamers he was on,one is Charter Oak which burned in April of 1846-47 in Mississippi, and the George Washington, I have letter from him to his Mother and from his mother to him dated from 1846 to 1850. His brother Oliver is listed in Hamilton Co Ohio as a Fire Fighter and died of Cholera, I think, Was there an epidemic around that time? 1850's+ -, Any suggestions or lookups would be appreciated. I know there was mention of Land Deeds for Hamilton Co Ohio that were found prior to 1960 from another researcher and he died and we can not find any of his research papers or documents. Bye 4 now.. 3. IMPORTANT TO INCLUDE DISPOSITION OF FAMILY PHOTOS & GENEALOGICAL RECORDS IN YOUR WILL Bob's message below illustrates the importance of including information in your will, or as a codicil, to name a person or place to receive your treasured family photos and genealogical records. If you have family bibles, quilts, or other items, include them in the document. It is heartbreaking to read that Bob's family photos were destroyed. Barbara Wegley Anderson -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Robert Niehaus Sent: Monday, February 25, 2008 11:08 AM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [OHHAMILT] Portraits - care and use Penny et al, I photgraphed my great grandparents' photo portraits (John and Anna Broxterman) that were each 24 by 32 inches, in elaborate frames at my elderly cousin Rosemary Broxterman's family home on West Eighth St. in Price Hill, Cincinnati. Rosemary allowed me to do that in her place but would not allow them outside for me to copy and return. I used a good 35 mm camera wirth adjustable focal length and a flash, set the portrait of each, in turn, upright on the floor in an interior door opening to avoid sunlight and took the photo (several shots each) from a slight angle to avoid flash bloom on the glass of the portrait. I selected the best of the developed photos and scanned them into my family history and as separate 5 by 7's. She did start to trust me more after this on-my-knees effort by me, a 65 year old male relative and lent me other, smaller snapshot photos of our ancestors to copy and return. If I had not gone to this trouble my chances of getting the portaits and the pics later would have been lost. Rosemary died a few months later. Her son then had her home cleaned out and all such pictures taken to the dump!! Bob Niehaus To contact the List Administrator, send an email to: [email protected] Did you miss a message?
