That's it! Thank you!! Phyllis -----Original Message----- I think that this is the site that you are talking about. http://search.labs.familysearch.org/recordsearch/start.html?datestamp=11 96018832416
Hi list, For the life of me I can't find the link that was discussed on this list a couple months ago. I think it may have been a test link through the LDS site?? I searched the Hamilton County archives and could not find it. Could someone please post it again, with the name of the site in the subject heading? Thank you, Phyllis Garratt
Thanks, Linda; I'm about to go with anything. I have found Kandelhard immigrants who came to the US, one in OH as a matter of fact. But, I don't know that Dora (Kandelwhatever) Meyer ever left Germany, so it's even more difficult to locate anything about her family. All input is certainly appreciated. Ann, I've been following this discussion, even tried a soundex search for you on ancestry, but nothing conclusive. But, I just did a search for someone else on the 1850 census and scrolling down the page the surname Genglebach born in Saxony popped out at me. I recalled your message wondering if the ending dad c/b bach. Made me wondering if a German G could sound like a K???? Just a suggestion :-) Linda ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Wednesday, March 12, 2008 9:45 AM Subject: [OHHAMILT] KANDELHARD? > All; > > I just want to acknowledge and archive a private reply I received in which > the following suggestions were made for my mystery surname "Kandeldad". > > KANDELAKI, in Nurnberg - 3 listings with Russian first names > > KANDELHARD, HARDT -- in more northern German places > > KANDELLA - 1 listing in Bamberg. > > > Of the selection, I'm inclined to go with KANDELHARD being the closest in > appearance to "KANDELDAD". Ann, Since the county eventually took over management of the hospital, the records could be with the county health department or the corner's office. Just a thought. Penny
Hi, I would like to encourage you to check out the resources at the virtual cemetery at http://www.findagrave.com <http://www.findagrave.com/> . You can check grave listings by state, county, surname, etc. There are more than 21 million entries. You might find information on a bunch of your ancestors. This is also a great site for posting more detailed information and photos on a particular ancestor than could fit on a traditional genealogy site. Thanks, Sharlotte [email protected]
The "Guide to Genealogical Resources in Cincinnati and Hamilton County", published by the Hamilton Co. Chapter, OGS, mentions a Potter's Field Guerley Road 1849-1982 .Entrance is down a lane from Guerley Rd and .5 mile east of Tuxworth St. in suburb of Price Hill. The site was used by both Hamilton Co. and Cinicnnati for the poor and indigent. Since 1982 these burials have b een made to active cemeteries. An interesting account about this cemetery can be seen on microfilm of the Cincinnati Tribune newspaper of 13 January 1895 at the Cincinnati Public Library. This may be the cemetery mentioned in the messages re the Tuberculosis sanitarium on Guerley Road. Thanks again, Penny; I have left an e-mail query on the "help" section. It is quite clear the actual "Ask a Librarian" address is not available for reply to anyone not directly affiliated with UC. I hope to get some assistance. Ann **************It's Tax Time! Get tips, forms, and advice on AOL Money & Finance. (http://money.aol.com/tax?NCID=aolprf00030000000001)
Ann, No. Nothing much on the records. I did find a link to a medical history library at UC that might have something. I don't know how easy it would be to get the information from them: http://www.aitl.uc.edu/history/Collections.cfm#Hospital Click on "Hospital records" These aren't online, but I guess you could contact the library. And there is certainly no guarantee that they are complete. Good luck. This has been interesting. I was going to suggest KANDELHARD after I did a search at ancestry.com for KAND*D and found this on the immigration index: Frederick Kandelhard 17 Feb 1830 Stransbrug By Berlin, Ger 2 Mar 1899 Village of Boston, Ohio Margaret
All; I just want to acknowledge and archive a private reply I received in which the following suggestions were made for my mystery surname "Kandeldad". KANDELAKI, in Nurnberg - 3 listings with Russian first names KANDELHARD, HARDT -- in more northern German places KANDELLA - 1 listing in Bamberg. Of the selection, I'm inclined to go with KANDELHARD being the closest in appearance to "KANDELDAD". I have been unable to find a Dora or Dorothea on FamilySearch in the German IGI, but there were contemporary families. Will hone in on that one. Still welcoming any input. Thanks for your input, Steven; I'm also wondering about "Kandelbach" as the "dad" might have been a handwriting misreading of "bach", but still cannot find that surname anywhere, either! All; I have seen this subject discussed before, but in going back to the archives for this list I don't see any real resolution or answer to some of the questions. I am now looking for information on someone who died in the tuberculosis facility on Guerley Road, and wonder if anyone ever located where records might still be kept and how they can be accessed? Also, there was a cemetery there. Has it ever been surveyed as far as names of persons buried there? Am looking for Luther Godsey, who died in the sanitarium some time in the mid to late 1950's. He is not included on the Ohio death records, so it would have been after 1953. Mainly interested in where he was buried - could have been local, could have been removed to KY or TN. Thanks, Marilyn; I had done the same thing (surname search) and came up with zip as well. Since the marriage record was signed by the groom, and the other handwriting was totally different, I'm thinking a clerk must have written out the information, based on what he thought he heard (Judge was Carl S. Nippert, Deputy Clerk was Ferd Bader. The marriage was performed by another August Meyer, who was a Catholic Priest. What church would he have been assigned to in August of 1902???
