    3. Thanks Marilyn! I reworded it a bit as all my searches are Hamilton County....Thanks :) Kathy ************** Hi I use to have ancestory.com but have done all the Cincinnati Hamilton County Ohio searches I can do on that site. 1. [OHHAMILT] Repeating the Ancestry message
    2. Greetings, all; Am cutting and pasting my reply to the Ancestry question yesterday. It bounced once, I tried to forward it, and that obviously didn't work, so will try to get 'er done this way. Best wishes, Ann Well, Kathy; I don't think I've ever heard of anyone having everything they can get out of Ancestry.com. I've used it for several years now, and am constantly finding new databases and other resources to continue gathering information on all my family lines. I find more information which leads to more questions, and they are constantly adding more, as well. There's always HeritageQuest and FamilySearch, both of which are very good - but they don't have nearly the depth that Ancestry has. Are you sure you have found all the available uses? Do you (or did you) have the complete subscription, or just the census portion? Ann Bergelt **************Create a Home Theater Like the Pros. Watch the video on AOL Home. 2. Linda Boorom
    3. Kathy, There are many different places to search for information, some free, some by subscription such as ancestry.com (not ancestory???) Not meaning to be promoting http://www.ancestry.com/, but they do add new content every weekday, often several, on a few occasions many. Family Tree Maker (FTM) http://www.genealogy.com which is now owned by The Generations Network (TGN) which also now "owns" ancestry.com, also has subscription based info., they also used to include new data daily, but there have been very few updates in the past few years. Rootsweb has info., they started as free, still free at the moment, but also owned, controlled by TGN. http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/ They have free mailing lists, such as this one as well as other counties, states, and numerous surname lists. Numerous data bases submitted by volunteers. Also supplies free webspace, many devoted to particular families or surnames as well as many county sites through various projects such as Genealogy Societies, USGenWeb (currently undergoing some changes in this avenue however) American Local History Network (AHLN) etc. Family Search (the Mormons) http://www.familysearch.org/ have a lot of info. Many indexed databases, but also many "user submitted" info. which many not be accurate. As with anything, use the info. as clues. Footnotes http://www.footnote.com/index.php is also subscription, but does have some free information. http://www.genealogybank.com/gbnk/keyword.html is also subscription, has current obits as well as historical newspapers etc. online. There are probably numerous more, some continuing to add info., many others not. Most are not free, but most, if not all, allow you to search for free to see what kind of hits you get. Then, you have to determine if it looks like a subscription might be worth the cost whether it's monthly or yearly (most offer both). If you're looking for information from a particular area, say Hamilton Co., OH, the Genealogy Society has their website here: http://www.hcgsohio.org/index.shtml I have a site for Hamilton Co., part of USGenWeb & ALHN here: http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~ohhamilt/mnpg.html And if you search google, you many find more. Try google for other counties as well. Not sure if this answers your question??? There are so many websites out there today, it's difficult to list them all. But try searching google, you may be surprised with what you find. 3. The book that was referred to includes: applicant, age, country of origin, if they declared at time they emigrated, departure port, entry port, arrival date. AND the volume, page, if they filed and naturalization dates. The amount of information that is included in naturalization records/ applications differs by when the immigrants arrived in the US and declared. There's a good article on this in a recent Family Tree magazine(I believe). This magazine is also available online. More recently, ie the 1900s, more information was required including weight, height and a general description. 1. [OHHAMILT] TOTTON/TOTTEN
    2. MFederle
    3. My brother, Fred, and I (both on this list) have been researching the Totton family in Hamilton Co., sometimes spelled Totten. It starts with Joseph Totton, b. 1760 in NJ and d. 1811 in Cincinnati, and his wife Anne Allen. They are the parents of our 3rd g-grandmother, Rachel Totton Seaman (1793-1866). They also had a dau. Catherine, who married Aquilla Corson, and a son, John (1800-1879) who married Jane Burlew. Many of John & Jane's children died in infancy or childhood. There are quite a few Totton/Tottens that we've seen in the death records, and at Pioneer Cemetery, but we just can't connect to them. Is anyone knowledgeable about this family? Perhaps Joseph & Ann Totton had other sons besides John, but I've been unable to find a record, and I've searched ancestry, rootsweb, and family search among other websites. Fred has found cemetery markers at Pioneer, including a 4-sided marker for these Tottons: George M. (1867-1867); Cora L. (1864-1873); John J. (1870-1871); and Carrie E. (1863-1868). These names don't match any I've been able to document so far, and the dates lead me to think that there is another Totton line that is somehow connected. Thanks for any help or advice where to look next. Martha Federle
