    3. Thanks, Bette, but I'm looking for a little information on where he worked and descendents, if he had any. I believe he worked at the old Cincinnati Times-Star, but I'm not sure what his position was. I was hoping that the obituary would show that. 2. Phyllis Garratt
    3. I was at the Probate Court two weeks ago, having flown in from California to do research, and I (gingerly) asked about the status of records going online. Shirley, the experienced person who manages that department and who is extremely nice and very helpful said that it was out of her hands and that she knew nothing more about when they would go online. I think she is just as disappointed as the rest of us by the delay. She said that the decision now rests with Judge Cissell. I used the database they have there and must admit I was disappointed. This really surprised me as I'm not easily disappointed (nor a complainer) when a genealogy database is sitting right there in front of me. I am generally pretty computer savvy and able-bodied. But the single computer sits on a very high counter that requires you to sit on a really high uncomfortable and difficult-to-sit-in stool (it was broken?). I did not find the database very user friendly and did not find any of the records I was looking for. I got frustrated and left with nothing. Now I was there 10 years ago when all the records were there in book form and all you had to do was pull them off the shelf and sit down in a normal chair. It allowed you time to browse the books and make copies of anything you wanted. I miss those days. Now I don't want come across as unappreciative because all-in-all, Cincinnati has excellent access to records online - more than most cities. Between the Assessor's Office, the Main Library, the cemetery databases, the Hamilton County Rootsweb site, and our list members (just to name a few) we've got a really good thing going. Phyllis -----Original Message----- Records,Wills and other record were going to be filmed and put online as of Fall 2006 Has anyone heard more about any progress that was being made. After filming they weren't going to be available in book form.

    3. Thank you, Ann, for those links. It appears, from reading the description of the last two items--"Naturalization records, 1850-1902" and "Restoration of naturalization papers, 1887-1926 : second papers of 1830-1889"--that these are "restored" records. That means that after the courthouse fire, people were invited to bring their copies of naturalization papers and have them re-recorded. If a naturalized citizen did not do that, then there is no record. That's what I learned at probate court, too. Looks like I am out of luck unless the Declarations of Intention were stored somewhere else when the fire occurred. Nora [email protected] wrote: > OK, > > Obviously, that didn't work. 3. Some of the newer records are online at the Hamilton County site in the Probate Court with sensitive date blacked out--like mother's name, ss #. I know I have it bookmarked but can't find it offhand. The older ones are not online as of now. Found it, the index search vehicle is: http://www.probatect.org/case_search/mlsearch.asp Put in the last name. I know there was part that had the actual images. Can't find that. But this gives the date &# Carol On May 13, 2008, at 3:48 PM, Tom wrote: > That was the word that came out about 2 1/2 years ago. 1. Re: [OHHAMILT] More about citizenship/naturalization information
    2. OK, Obviously, that didn't work. The transfer via e-mail really messed up the images and I doubt it can be clarified other than by going to the LDS website (_www.familysearch.org_ (http://www.familysearch.org) ) and clicking on the top tab to reach the library catalog. Once there, click on "place" search. Enter "Hamilton" and "Ohio" in the boxes. On the alphabetical list, you will see two resources for Citizenship. One is an index. Click on the other. The list of several items comes up. That may make my previous message a little clearer. At any rate, you can actually see some of the Citizenship/Naturalization records on the microfilm. Court of Common Pleas (Hamilton County) All, I hope this works and comes through well. The above entry is from the LDS Family History Library CATALOG. This is what you see if you go to the library catalog on _www.familysearch.org_ (http://www.familysearch.org) and enter "Hamilton, Ohio" NOT "Cincinnati" (that's a whole different list of resources). I thought I had seen these records on microfilm in Salt Lake City. I believe it would be the item listed from the Hamilton County Probate Court. And I also was under the impression the Cincinnati Public Library has a similar or same film in the Genealogy Department. I'm not sure if all are included, or there might be duplicates, or they are restored records - but as I recall, they appeared original to me. The item in red is the index of the ones you found at Blegen Library at UC. I always assumed they had been turned over to them AFTER being filmed or otherwise saved. 3. I am puzzled about this. Several years ago I searched for naturalization records at Hamilton County Probate court for the time period mentioned here. I was told by the staff there that the naturalization records burned in the 1884 courthouse fire. Can someone explain the situation to me? If, in fact, the records are all at UC, I will be thrilled. Also, how did UC end up with the public records they have, rather than the records being stored by the city. (UC used to be a city university--it that it?)
