    3. Hello List, I am still looking for the origin of the massive structure that I knew as "Palumbo Apts"..Michael Palumbo owned them in the 40's and his son Victor took over in the late 40's earl 50's. I know this place had to have been some kind of Hotel or something prior to the 30's, 40's and 50's. There were laundry shoots and dumb waiters that were close up and used as cabinet. There were stair cases that led to no where but locked doors to other apts. This place was not always apartments. There were huge floor to ceiling mirrors and the ceilings were 12ft, these mirrors were a chalk substance and painted with gold paint.they had a marble place on the lower end to sit things. I use to be afraid they were going to fall on me when I was young. Some of the buildings you could get from one entrance to the other but some were closed off. I would love to hear from anyone who lived here or has pictures of this area. I was very small when we moved there from the country and lived there until some time in my 7th year of school. I use to swim at Inwood Park and walk down town to the "Uptown" theatre on a regular basis. I would walk to the end of Ohio Ave and take the stairs down to Vine Street. Hoping someone can help with this. There were actually 2507, 2509, 2511, 2513 and 2515 as far as I can remember as addresses of these apartments. There was a gas station on the corner next to 2507 and there was a little grocery store at the end by 2515 and the roof of the store we would play on. Thanks in advance.

    2. Cindy writes on 5 Jun 2008: " I lived on Ohio Avenue, just the short section in between Calhoun and McMillan Streets.  It was directly across from a church and also the Friars Club was on one corner.  When I lived there the place was called Palumbo Apartments." Cindy: I checked the Hamilton Co. web site and 2509 Ohio Avenue no longer exists. I did check all nearby addresses: 2419 is an apartment building built in 1974. 2422 is a retirement home built in 1916. -Looks like a converted home. It is owned by the Friars club. 2423 is a 3 family dwelling built in 1870. -Looks like a single family home converted into 3 apartments. 2431 is an apartment building built in 1920. 2432 is a church. 2433 is a 2 family dwelling built in 1870. 2510 Ohio Avenue is a parking garage and a retail office building, however the photo looks like a church. It was built in 1928. You can do this yourself by: 1) Google Hamilton County Auditor and click on "property search." or go here: http://www.hamiltoncountyauditor.org/realestate/rover30.asp 2) Click street address or g o here: http://www.hamiltoncountyauditor.org/realestate/rover30.asp 3) Type in a low range street number and a high range street number. Type the name of the street, but don't add avenue, street, lane, drive, etc. Add direction if there is one (ex: N, S, W, E, NE, etc.) Click go. 4) Click on the address selection from the list that will appear. 5) A description of the property will appear. 6) To see a photo of that property, click on "image" on the left side list. A photo will appear. Happy hunting! Donna ************** Get trade secrets for amazing burgers. Watch "Cooking with Tyler Florence" on AOL Food. 3. It would not have been a hotel in the 1950's, possibly the late 1800's but some kind of apartments from the 1900's on...it was huge and red brick..I have picture of my sister and I sitting on the steps and my brothers also. You can see the "P" on the door for Palumbo. The ceilings in this place were so VERY HIGH and in some of the apartments there was the gold gilded paint mirrors that went from floor to ceiling with a marble ledge on some of them, I use to think they were going to fall on us as kids. 3. Janet, Thanks so much..you are correct, it took up the whole block. It would not have been a hotel in your time...I would say around the 1800's or so, it was so very, very old inside. We lived in several different apartments in the years we lived there. I went from first grade to sixth grade at Fairview and then on to Hughes High school. My mom use to clean the hallways and such for extra money for our family. It was owned then by Victor Palumbo who I think inherited the place from his father Michael Palumbo. I lived in another apt building before that one on Ohio Ave, just across from the Friars Club behind a little grocery store. I use to turn in pop bottles for candy at the grocery...such fond memories. HILDEBRANT. Three Hildebrant children - no marriages noted. Amanda ((1819-1891) married Silas CRARY. Had 6 children, only a marriage noted for Benjamin F. CRARY to Kate KENDALL. 5 children, incl.
