    2. Hello Jeanne, Sorry to say that I was unable to locate another Elisabeth Bechtold in my database. The one I have married a man named Schäfer in 1750. The town where a lot of them lived was in Stollhofen, not that far from Altsweier. Since you and I are are both in Cincinnati, the Stollhofen microfilms for BDM and the familiy book are all at the LDS Church in Norwood on permanent loan: (1045183-1045188). I know there are a boatload of Bechtold's in Stollhofen. Let me know if you are interested into looking in this further. I'm working in Stollhofen right now and am just looking at the descendants who emigrated and ended up in Cincinnati or nearby communiites. Tim Allgeyer Pleasant Ridge

    1. [OHHAMILT] Franz N. or M. Koch (1833-1900)
    2. I am looking for information on Franz N. or M. Koch/Cook born about 1833 in Wurtemburg and died about 1900 in Cincinnati. With all the wonderful Ohio death records available - Il still can't locate him. In 1870 he was with wife Pauline and children(all born in Ohio), Emma, Bertha, Sophia, Frank, (Charles) Albert and Edward. In 1880 he was with wife Louisa, children Henry, Charles and Lulu. Does this family sound familiar to anyone? Hope to hear from someone. Karen

    1. [OHHAMILT] Charles Cook (Koch) married Anna Wuestenfeld 1891 - Who were his parents?
    2. Hello everyone! I am hoping to connect with someone that might help me locate the parents of the Charles Cook that married Anna Wuestenfeld on April 2, 1891 - Married by Emil K. L. Schmidt - officiant at St. Matthew United Evangelical German Church. He has been MY BRICK WALL! I have spent the day searching Cincinnati Directories and see that he was living with his wife until 1904. In 1900 he was the proprietor of Queen City Flushing Co. located at 410 Laurel. His home was 822 Findlay. He may have ended up selling the company and starting a company named Cincinnati Flushing Company. In 1903 his home was at 822 Findlay. In 1904 Mrs. Anna is living at 822 Findlay – occupation – a cook. It doesn’t say she was a widow. The 1910 census shows she was married – but I can’t find Charles. By 1920 the census shows she was widowed. I have checked Newsdex at the Cincinnati Public Library and have ordered all the Charles Cook or Koch obits I can find. Only possibility is that he was the Charles Koch that died in 1905 in Tennesee. His death certificate does not show his parents names. He was 37 years old. The obit says he was the son of the late Philip Koch that lived at Eighth and McPherson, Price Hill, (Hamilton Co.) OH. The Funeral was from the chapel of J.J. Radel Company, 652 State av., and burial was private. I AM HOPING SOMEONE CAN HELP ME!! 2. Jeanne Listermann
    3. Tim. I have an Elizabeth Bechtold from Baden. I don't have dates for her but she married Johannes Georgy Lins (Linz) b. 1716. Their gr grandson Ludwig Lins (Linz) emigrated in 1854. His home town was Altsweier. They apparently passed through Cincinnati where one child was born and they were in Ripley, OH on the 1860 census. They settled in Sandusky, OH. Perhaps relatives were the reason they stopped in Cincinnati. Does that information connect Elizabeth Bechtold to your Bechtold people? 1. [OHHAMILT] Hobart, William Newell dba Fletcher, Hobart & Co.; Maddux, Hobart & Co.; Diamond Distilleries; Diamond Distillery
    2. Gloria
    3. I'm trying to find information and hopefully photos of a business that operated in Cincinnati in the second half of the 19th century until aproximately 1910. William N. Hobart (1836-1912) learned the distillery business from Lowell Fletcher. When Hobart became a partner, the firm changed names from Fletcher & Co. to Fletcher, Hobart & Co. Lowell Fletcher died in 1974, and the distillery company became known as Hobart & Co. Later, Hobart was joined by William Maddux and the distillery firm became Maddux, Hobart & Co. When William Maddux died, the firm became the Diamond Distillery or Diamond Distilleries. William Hobart sold Diamond Distilleries in 1910 to Union Distilleries. The company had operations in numerous locations: Lowell Fletcher built a 5-story building at the SE corner of Vine & Front Sts. and two 2-story building on the north side of Water St., between Vine and Walnut. Maddux, Hobart & Co. had a large distillery on both sides of the street on Gest St. at Millcreek. The address was given as 368-390 Gest. It appears that the sewerage facility is located there now. Diamond Distillery/Diamond Distilleries was located on Pearl St. at 107 E. Pearl St. and from 415 to 425 East Pearl St. The location in the 400 block of Pearl Street burned January 1, 1907, but is supposed to have been rebuilt. William Newal Hobart was President of the May Festival for about a dozen years, and was also a past president of the Chamber of Commerce. William Maddux owned and operated his 'ranch' - Oxford Park - and bred and raised cattle from Europe. I'm hoping to find any additional information and photos of these men and buildings that you might have in your archives. If you're not able to help, perhaps you can put me in touch with someone who might have some photos or info. Thank you for your time and consideration, Gloria

    2. Hello, In researching the ancestral hometown of my mom in Baden, I've come across the BECHTOLD name who left there and settled in Cincinnati. One left in 1837, the other in 1853. The names of the brothers are Joachim Bechtold and Johann Bechtold. If anyone out there in cyberland has these two people as ancestors I can probably assist you in your research in their German homeland because this name is there in my direct line of ancestry. Have a great week.... Tim Allgeyer Cincinnati

    3. Yes, Kenny does not believe these are on the Web site. His books also give the bride's name, date of marriage, volume and entry no. and officiant. The introduction also lists where (what part of town) those officiant's practiced. If you are interested in Jeff Herbert's old marriage books, Heritage Books published those and they may be in reprint by now. 3. Thought I would forward this press release regarding the digitalization of Cincinnati Birth and Death Records to this list. I look forward to August 2010. University of Cincinnati Libraries Press Release Contact: Melissa Cox Norris, Director of Library Communications, (513) 556-1558 or melissa.norris@uc.edu <mailto:%20melissa.norris@uc.edu> UC *Libraries Awarded a LSTA Grant to Digitize Cincinnati Birth and Death Records* October 1, 2009 - The University of Cincinnati Libraries have been awarded a $140,437 Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA) grant from the State Library of Ohio to digitize the birth and death records of the City of Cincinnati from 1865 through 1908. In partnership with OhioLINK, the 340,000 records will be scanned and made freely accessible on the Internet via OhioLINK's Digital Resource Commons (DRC) at http://drc.libraries.uc.edu/. The scanning will begin in October 2009 with access to the records beginning in August 2010. Each birth record contains the name of the individual along with birth date, race, gender, name and birthplace of father and mother, occupation of father, doctor or midwife, and hospital. For each death record the following information is available: name, age, date and cause of death, address, occupation, race, gender, attending physician, funeral home, and place of burial. The birth and death records, which are part of the collections of the Archives and Rare Books Library <http://www.libraries.uc.edu/libraries/arb/index.html>, are of great historical and genealogical importance. They are among the most heavily used research materials in the library. In the last year, the Archives and Rare Books Library received 3,000 requests for information from the birth and death records, representing 75% of genealogy reference service provided to the general public. "This scanning project will make an already valuable, much-used resource widely accessible to genealogists and the general public, as well as to social historians, epidemiologists, and public health historians," said Victoria A. Montavon, dean and university librarian. In addition to providing wider access to researchers in Ohio and around the world, digitizing the Cincinnati birth and death records will also preserve the 340,000 index cards created several decades ago by the Cincinnati Health Department after the original ledger volumes, also preserved in the Archives and Rare Books Library, became too fragile to handle.

    3. There is a Catherine Wuestenfeld, born 1889, died 1936 in the FamilySearch Record Search site (that wonderful pilot site that has Ohio death certificates indexed and available for download). Her husband was William Wuestenfeld. She was buried in Spring Grove in Cincinnati. There are a number of Wuestefelds buried in Spring Grove but none that fit the dates or birthplace... I didn't find anyone else on the FamilySearch site but perhaps with additional information she might show up. Good hunting! Pat Salt

    1. [OHHAMILT] Buer Website -Nienhueser and others
    2. I don't know this family, but my relatives also came from Buer in the same time frame and their last name was Westerhold. (Similar but different.) However, this gives me the opportunity to give those of you with ancestors from Buer a new source opportunity. (If the Catherine Nienhueser listed is yours, it says she died in 5 Aug 1919, however, it gives a different husband's name so maybe its not the same person.) http://www.buer-us.de/ This site is devoted to people from Buer who emigrated to the US and is wonderful. They have gone to extensive effort to document who came over, when, where they settled, who they married, etc. The contact is: dreuse@buer-us.de Somehow he found one of my posts into a genealogy group and contacted me about one of my relatives. The data on his page fleshed out a family I had some data on and gave me a separate relation that also came over that I had not found before. It says it is "Dedicated to the german and american descendants of the Buescher, Nienhueser (Niehaus) and (auf der) Masch families (as well as hundreds of other farmers who left the german village of BUER and its surrounding villages in the 19th century to emigrate to the U.S.A.) " So potentially the contact on the website has more data on the family you are related to. There was a link to a family tree for Nienhuser, but its broken. The site has a list of 3600 names and a history of the area, pictures of the area and normal farms/residences. It gives a great perspective on where our folks came from. The people listed on the site come from research into emmigration records, passenger lists, church records both here and in Germany, census lists in US, and researchers. Each person on the list is documented as to what sources were used for them. See below for standard reference for one person. 3. Maybe this might help: 1867 through December 19, 1908 Ohio made it a law to record deaths in 1867. County probate courts kept death records between 1867 and December 19, 1908. There is no statewide index to death records from 1867 through December 19, 1908. Go to the list of county probate court death records held at the Ohio Historical Society. If the Ohio Historical Society does not hold a county's death records, please contact the county's probate court. A list of county courthouse contacts is available at Ohio County Courthouse Addresses. http://www.ohiohistory.org/resource/archlib/death1.html#deathguidelinesrecor d Rose -----Original Message----- From: ohhamilt-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:ohhamilt-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of kphill2906@aol.com Sent: Thursday, October 22, 2009 4:29 PM To: ohhamilt@rootsweb.com Subject: [OHHAMILT] Catherine Nienhuser Wuestenfeld Hello everyone! I am trying to locate a death/burial record for Mrs. Catherine Nienhuser Wuestenfield. She was born about 1834 in Buer, Germany and I think she died sometime around 1916 in Cincinnati. I have checked Newsdex and can only locate a Katherine Wuestefeld that died in 1904. Perhaps that is her, but I'm not sure. Is anyone familiar with this family? Thanks!
