Dudley." [Transcribed on March 25, 2005 by RLJ from microfilm of the original newspaper on file in the Bloomfield-Eastern Greene County Public Library.] Samuel DUDLEY, son of Henry and Elizabeth DUDLEY, was born in Senecaville, Guernsey County, Ohio, August 10, 1838, and departed this life in the early morning of September 11, 1913. He was aged seventy-five years, one month and one day. He came to Indiana in 1861, settling in Beech Creek Township where he lived a useful and honorable life, and where he died surrounded by his family and friends. In 1862 he enlisted in the service of his country and served for more than two years in the Civil War when he was forced to leave because of a severe wound received at the Battle of Kennesaw Mountain. On December 28, 1865, he was married to Mary Elizabeth SECREST, and to this union was born six children, one son and five daughters, all living. They are Mrs. A. w. OGG, of Lewiston, Montana; Mrs. W. I. BROWN, Worthington; Mrs. T. O. HUDSON, Hendricksville; Mrs. J. N CHRISTY, Romona; Mrs. William M. HARRAH, Hendricksville, and Henry S. DUDLEY, Bloomington. He was a strong, industrious man of determined will power and robust constitution. He had been in failing health for many months, and had been quite poorly for two months, being confine to his room and most of the time was bedfast. But in all this time he exemplified a fortitude and patience that was remarkable. He was an affectionate husband and father, a loyal churchman, a true member of the Masonic order, a good neighbor and a kind friend. He will be missed in the home and in the community, but his faith and testimony leave a halo of light and hope to beckon us on, thought tears may fall and hearts be sad.
