Glad to find this message board. I am working on the line of James L. Mills who married Philomena Shaffer, dau. of Jacob Shaffer and Eliza Nolan. I have not found James' parents but did find Squire Mills in same general area, same time frame (1850, 1860, etc. censuses). I've found several James Mills round about but no proof if one is mine. Re. Herrings, other lines: mostly Perry, Allen, Auglaize counties. I'd really like to hear from others/any one working on these surnames either in Guernsey county or counties near, since others could be related.
