We all have skeletons in our closets. My great grandfather (Shepherd Phillip King) was a deserter in the Civil War. His version of the story (told to my uncle when he was a child) was that he went to his first battle and was disgusted to be fighting his fellow Americans, so he threw down his rifle and walked home to Ohio. I believe that he and was only 17 years old and got scared in his first battle, so he deserted. He had joined with his older brother.
