You're right! Nothing in Ancestry (yet). But, I did find the following notice, which gives the proximate location of Hugh Stewart's land, and might be a help to you: [excerpted from] The Cambridge Jeffersonian Vol. 45, No. 31, Thursday, December 14, 1876, pg. 2 Sheriff's Sale: BY VIRTUE OF AN EXECUTION received from the Court of Common Pleas of Guernsey county, Ohio, to me directed in a cause wherein The Quaker City National Bank Is plaintiff and John Doudna Is defendant, I will offer at public sale on the premises of Hugh Stewart, 2-1/2 miles northeast of Gibson's Station, at Gibson's Station and on the farm of Martin Kays In Richland township, 1/2 mile south of Gibson's Station, on Wednesday, December 27th, 1876. If I find any more, I'll let you know. Elizabeth, Mary and Hugh Stewart are in the 1850 census in Guernsey, OH. She is listed as being 30 but often times ages are incorrect so I wouldn't let that stop me from pursuing this lead. Let me know if you need help in finding them - they are on page 28 of 38 pages in D.L. 46 - Wills Township. Linda On Dec 27, 2008, at 12:02 AM, John & Elizabeth Cook wrote: > You're right! Thanks so much to both of you for the leads! They reminded me of something I saw while researching local newspapers. I didn't know if it was significant but now I think it might be: Hugh Stewart, formerly a well known citizen of this vicinity died at his home in Newark Ohio on July 1890. His remains were brought to Gibson's and buried beside his first wife on the farm be once owned. (Cambridge Jeffersonian, 7/24/1890, p.3) When I originally read that he was "brought back to Gibson's", I had no idea what that meant but now it makes sense. FINALLY some results! Any thoughts on what I should do next? THANKS A BUNCH!
