Loper, on the best known citizens of Guernsey County, died at his residence in this city, Sunday, September 9, at 2:255 p.m. He had been confined to his bed for two weeks the result of an attack of malaria fever, from which he was supposed to be recovering, peritonitis developed Saturday night which soon resulted in death. He was born in Harrison County, Ohio, May 30, 1847. He was a soldier in the late war, being a member of the 185th O.V.I. After the war closed he returned home and engaged at his trade, the saddlery business. October 22, 1868, he married Miss Heniette Fred of Senecaville, who survives him. To them were born four children, two sons and two daughters, on son died in infancy and Mary died this city in March 1890. Fred and Lizzie are living, the former being married and the latter at home with her mother. He has a brother residing in Kansas and Benjamin Loper and Mrs. Hoge of Lloydsville are brother and sister of the deceased. The latter two attended the funeral. The deceased had built up a large and profitable saddlery and harness business in Cambridge. He was an active and devoted Republican and was a member of the board of township trustees at the time of his death. He was a member a member of the I.O.O.F and Masonic fraternities and was buried by the former lodge. When C. H. Loper was a friend he was a friend indeed. Nothing was to hard for to do those things he liked. He was honest and honorable in all his transactions and despised anything that was mean and dishonest. He will greatly missed in Cambridge where he was so well and favorably known. His wife and children have the sincere sympathy of many friends in their sad bereavement. Funeral services were conducted in the M. E. Church Tuesday at 2 p.m. by Revs. Carr Milligan and Selby, assisted by the I.O.O. F. Lodge. Interment in city cemetery.
