J. Law, near Middlebourne, Guernsey County, Ohio. The deceased was 78 years and 19 days of age, she was surrounded by her children when bade to succumb by deaths never failing blow. She seemed to enjoy the best of health until within the last three months, when the infirmities of old age began to make their appearance. The deceased was the second daughter of William and Biddy Temple, who came to this country from Ireland in 1819 and located in New York City, and was born December 18, 1819; she came to Guernsey County sometime during the decade between 1830 and 1840, and was married to John Smith, June 20, 1840, who with ten children, forty-one grandchildren and two great-grandchildren survive her. Their children are given in order of birth; William Smith, Mary E. Wherry, Sarah J. Henderson, Elizabeth Smith, who died in infancy, Margaret S. Carter, Geo. M. Smith, Emma Spencer, Etta Doyal, Amanda Law, John F. Smith and Nannie Law. Shortly after their marriage they located on a farm on Pultney Ridge, where they continued to live until last spring, since then they have been temporarily living with their daughters. She was glad to see her children all married. She was a very consistent Christian having united with the U. P. Church at Sand Hill over thirty years ago, and her life was trul! y consecrated to God and His services, and her chief aim in life was kindness toward others. By her death a kind and loving mother is gone and an affectionate wife is missed, whose noble acts and deeds of kindness while living, has left for her a monumental record which will perpetuate her name to future generations. The funeral services were conducted Sunday at 10 o'clock at her daughter's home by Rev. L. N. White after which the remains, followed by a long line of relatives and friends, were taken for interment to the Fairview Cemetery The relatives have full sympathy of the entire community in their sad bereavement.
