Author: TerryWillis124 Surnames: Classification: obituary Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.ohio.counties.guernsey/4421/mb.ashx Message Board Post: The death of Mrs. Rachel Daugherty, daughter of the late Asa and Mary Engle of near Birmingham, occurred at her home on West Steubenville Ave. yesterday afternoon at 4:25 o'clock. Mrs. Daugherty has been in poor health all winter but has grown much worse during the past two weeks her death being due to old age and lung trouble. She was born near Birmingham, on August 2, 1825 and spent her life in that vicinity until 1892 when she moved to the city. In March of 1843 she was married to Robert Vance Daugherty undertaker and cabinet maker of Birmingham, and to this union were born nine children, six of whom survive her. Hey are A. N. of Jackson, Tenn., Mrs. Mary Thomas of Imperial, California, Hiram A., of Columbus, O., and David O., of Oklahoma City, E. M. and Miss Martha at home. She is survived by one brother Nathan Engle of the state of Washington, and two sisters Mrs. Rebecca Gilpin of Portland, Ind., and Mrs. Elmyra Yingling, of Newcomerstown, Ohio. When thirteen years of age she united with the M. E. Church and has ever since lead a true Christian life. The deceased was a kind, loving mother and helpful neighbor.
