Calvert, died at his home in Midway, Nov. 25, 1897, of consumption, caused by la grippe, aged 71 years. He was born in Winchester in 1825, and by careful diligence secured a good general education and for eleven years taught school in Guernsey and Harrison counties. On March 26, 1857, he married Margaret A. Johnson, of Londonderry Township, who survives him. To them was born one son T.J. Calvert. After marriage he became a farmer, an occupation in which he took great pleasure and pursued successfully. He served in Co. I, 176th O.V.I during the war of the rebellion and was justice of the peace for 15 years and for many years was trustee of his township. He served as steward and trustee of the Harmony M.E. Church and filled many offices of trust for the people. He was considered a safe counselor and his advice was often sought by his many friends. He was respected and loved by the entire community. He expected death and was fully prepared for its coming. The funeral services were conducted from the late residence by his pastor Rev. Appleton, Saturday Nov. 27, and interment made in the Midway Cemetery. Thursday 2 Dec. 1897 Republican Press Cambridge Ohio.
