WILLIAM 1 CAMPBELL (ROBERT A) was born July 14, 1801, and he may be the William who died January 5, 1871 in Clinton County, Iowa. He married ANNE LAWRENCE. She was born March 3, 1798 in the 1850 census will list state, and died May 5, 1882 in Clinton County, Iowa. (this William has not been proven) Dates and most of the family information - courtesy of Rose Cranston. Emma Mellou Campbell, page 33, named William as a son without naming his wife and Emma named three of his children, William Taggart with the same date of birth as Rose's William Taggent Campbell (a good fit), Robert Hanna Campbell (Rose has Robert H.) , and Rebecca married to a Barrett. (As of November 22, 2000 I am not sure what this note means - seems to mean this info is speculative - clearly needs work.) Children of WILLIAM CAMPBELL and ANNE LAWRENCE are: i. MARGARET ELIZABETH2 CAMPBELL, b. April 28, 1824; d. August 24, 1893, Oldebolt, Iowa; m. JOHN B. CRANSTON, April 25, 1848, Gurnsey County. ii. JANE CAMPBELL, b. March 4, 1826; d. May 10, 1884; m. R.J. JAMISON. iii. SARAH ANN CAMPBELL, b. October 16, 1827; d. February 14, 1921; m. (1) JOHN BARRETT, May 19, 1852; m. (2) JAMES A. MAYES, September 9, 1865. iv. ROBERT HANNA CAMPBELL, b. November 21, 1829. v. LAWRENCE ALEXANDER CAMPBELL, b. November 11, 1831; d. November 28, 1921. vi. REBECCA CAMPBELL, b. Abt. 1832; m. BARRETT. vii. INFANT CAMPBELL, b. February 10, 1834. viii. CHILD CAMPBELL, b. January 14, 1835. ix. WILLIAM TAGGART CAMPBELL, b. July 21, 1836, near Antrim; d. April 10, 1912, at the home of his adopted daughter, R.W. Jamieson; m. (1) JENNIE LOGUE; m. (2) RACHEL BRATTON. Notes for WILLIAM TAGGART CAMPBELL: Station master at Dewitt Iowa. Minister in the Unite Presbyterian Church. Delegate to Pan-Presbyterian Councis in Scotland(or Irealnd). ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We think Robert may havew arrived in New York 1801 - but this remains to be proven. Robert did have a son named William - he is named i n his will and a William was a witness in 1838 when Robeert F. Campbell purchased land in Gurnesey County. Emma , page 7, thought that the first Robert may have had a brother Alexander who lived nearby. He seems to have died in 1838 and tin 1935 there were papers in his estate settlement. That might be a lead for you and another William. Keep us in mind --- Regards Hal
