OH Queries Forum Board URL: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Oh/Guernsey?read=1024 Surname: CHERRY ------------------------- Seeking all info on all CHERRY families living in Guernsey Co.OH. in 1830's through 1858. Several CHERRY brothers and families purchased property or took up land grants here that came from Washington Co.PA. Of these, am particularly interested in what became of Thomas Wm. CHERRY and wife Elizabeth (maiden name PHILLIS). Two of their heirs were located in households of Charles PHILLIS (brother of Elizabeth CHERRY) and David GLASS in 1850 census. Thomas and Elizabeth were not named in this census. Guardianship proceedings for Susannah (age-16 in 1855 and for Alcinda CHERRY, age 17 in 1858 (the two) revealed they were heirs of THOMAS CHERRY, deceased. Two of their brothers, John CHERRY, age 27, wife Margaret, Claysville, OH. was found on 1850 census and brother William CHERRY, age 22 was found back in PA. in 1850 where he married Eliza Jane CHERRY, a cousin. An older sister, Sarah Ann CHERRY was found to have married a Gladden MOORE in Guernsey Co. in 1853. and found in 1860/70 censuses in DesMoines Co.IA. Joseph CHERRY, believed eldest son of Thomas and Elizabeth was noted as "deceased, late of Guernsey Co. in 1855 Guardianship paper. My searches have turned up nothing regarding death, wills, or administrations on Thomas, Elizabeth or Joseph. A marriage license was issued in 1845 to an Elizabeth CHERRY and David GLASS (in whose household Alcinda was found in 1850, but w/out Elizabeth). Any additional information on any of this family would be deeply appreciated. In 1855 Susanna CHERRY married William Paul HILLMAN,a native of France. They had eleven children, 5 living in 1900. In 1865 Alcinda married Wm Turnbaugh in Guernsey Co. Barry Faulkner flybarry@webtv.net

    3. Barry, Elizabeth Phillis, is the daughter of Joseph Phillis and Elizabeth Little. I don't have any direct information on them, but Elizabeth would have been my 4th great aunt. I show that Elizabeth was born in 1795, Smith Township, Washington County, Pennsylvania, but I have no additional information on her nor Thomas William Cherry.
