My ancestor James Ralston came to Guernsey Co. OH in the early 1800's, probably around 1825. In 1850 he was listed in Cambridge twp. with third wife and family. He was b. in Scotland ca 1790, possibly sojourned in VA for a little bit. He was first married to Martha ?, possibly Martha Poney/Powney of SCT. She died in Guernsey Co. 1832-1834 (from b.d. of children). Family lore is that James went back to SCT or IRE to get his next two wives. First one was Eliza Mather, but children's later census says she was b. in PA. There is an Eliza RALSTON buried in the Northfield cemetery, listed in BOOK: Pioneer Cemeteries of Guernsey Co., OH, by Conner & Goodpaster, but says she was b. in 1776, too early - might actually be 1796? This Eliza d. in 1849, which pretty much fits in with her children's b.d.. Third wife was MaryReed/Read. She was b. 1811-1813, either in PA or Ireland. Census says PA; son's death cert. says Ireland. In the early 1850's Mary and James and children moved to Madison Co., IA, where he died. Anyone have any knowledge of these Ralstons, or any other Ralstons that might be related who were in the area at the time? Jeannie Smith
