Cambridge, OH . . March 2001 CANTON — Donald Ray Gallagher, 81, of Canton, died Thursday (March 1, 2001) at his home following a battle with leukemia for more than a year. He was born Sept. 13, 1919, in Guernsey County, a son of the late Thomas and Maud Gallagher. He was a Canton resident since 1945. Mr. Gallagher belonged to the North Industry Christian Church for 51 years, where he served as a deacon for a number of years and was a member of the Home Builders Sunday School class. He was an Army veteran, having served in World War II in the European theater. He retired from Central Allied Enterprises and was a charter member of the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 18. Mr. Gallagher was preceded in death by a daughter, Frances A. Gravius; three sisters; two brothers; a nephew. He leaves his wife of 55 years, Alice (Olden) Gallagher of the home; a son, Larry R. Gallagher of Massillon, and his fiancée, Jane Escusa of Magnolia; three granddaughters and their husbands, Lisa (Gravius) and Joe May of Canton, Lori (Gallagher) and Ron Springer of Louisville and Devvie (Gallagher) and Chad Browning of North Royalton; a great-granddaughter, Alexis R. Springer; four great-grandsons, Michael and Nicholas May and Joshua and Jordan Browning; a brother and sister-in-law, William and Alberta Gallagher of Antrim; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Robert and Thelma Olden, and sister-in-law, Virginia Griffith, all of Cambridge; several nieces and nephews. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Reed Funeral Home, 705 Raff Road, S.W., Canton, where services will be 11 a.m. Monday. Steve Kimbrel will officiate. Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery.
