Clay, 69, of the Red Carpet Health Care Center, died Thursday morning (June 18, 1992) at Guernsey County Memorial Hospital. She was born Oct. 15, 1922, in Guernsey County, daughter of the late William O. and Cynthia Wendell Pethtel. She was a former employee at March Electric and the former Cambridge State Hospital and retired from NCR, all of Cambridge. She was a member of the North Salem Presbyterian Church and the Ladies Auxiliary to the Guernsey VFW Post 2901. She was preceded in death by a daughter. Mrs. Clay leaves a son, David Clay of Minerva; two daughters, Judy Darlene Hammersly of Cambridge and Nancy Marie Timmons of Flushing; two brothers, Robert and Howard Pethtel, both of Cambridge; six grandchildren, Steve Hammersly of New Concord; Dana Hammersly of Cambridge; David A. Clay of Carrollton; Amie Clay Robertson of Cuyahoga Falls, Jay Timmons of Dayton and Tricia Timmons of Colorado Springs, Colo.; several nieces and nephews. Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at Thorn Funeral Home, where services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday with Pastor Stephen Spurgin officiating. Burial will be in Northwood Cemetery.
