OH Queries Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Oh/Guernsey/11558 Surname: Henderson, Clendennin, Vance ------------------------- Henderson's of Guernsey Co., Quaker City, Ohio: I am new to geneology, having picked up information I collected 20 years ago, and trying to build from there. There is additional information which I am working to obtain from my grandmother's sister's family in Quaker City. My maternal grandmother was MARY MELISSA HENDERSON (b.Dec. 1, 1878 in Quaker City; d.Jan. 31, 1959 in Zanesville, Ohio - her home was in Cumberland/Chandlersville area though.) (1) Mary was one of four children (Maud, Charlie, Hattie) of JONATHON HENDERSON (b.1843 Guernsey Co.) and ELIZABETH SMITH whom he married in Quaker City in 1872. (Jonathon had a twin brother David,- 122nd Reg., Co. H, OVI - who died at Andersonville Prison in Georgia on Oct. 23, 1864.) (2) Jonathon Henderson was one of 12 children of WILLIAM HENDERSON (b.1806 Guernsey Co., d.Feb. 26, 1892)and MARY (POLLY) VANCE (b.1810). (3) William Henderson was the fifth of 12 children of Maj WILLIAM HENDERSON (no birth or death date)and NANCY ANN CLENDENNIN (b.1780)who came to Oxford Twp from PA in 1804. Maj William became a major in the War of 1812. He was a blacksmith, and made the sword which he carried during the war. (4) Maj. William was the oldest child of JOHN HENDERSON (b.1747 County Down Ireland. d.1814 near St. Clairsville, Ohio) and MARTHA LONG (b. 1754/ d.1829) John and Martha had nine children. (I believe John was in the Revolutionary War - but can't put my hands on family documentation yet.) In 1804, John and Martha sold their 330 acre farm near Lewistown, PA for $5333.00 to John Campbell. They came to Ohio, bought land, and built a home near St. Clairsville, Ohio. Per family history, the deed was signed by President Thomas Jefferson and Secretary of State James Madison. (5) John Henderson was a son of WILLIAM AND AGNES HENDERSON, who came to America in 1758 from County Down Ireland, and settled near Lewistown, PA. Somewhere in my memory, I believe John and Agnes had 12 children - but that is also with family documentation which I am still trying to locate.
