Oh Obituaries Reply Here: http://genconnect.rootsweb.com/gc/USA/Oh/GuernseyObits/95 Surname: FRAME, MCLAUGHLIN ------------------------- THE BLOOMFIELD NEWS, Bloomfield, Greene County, Indiana, Friday October 30, 1896, Volume XX, Number 48, Page 3, Column 4, “OBITUARY. MCLAUGHLIN.” [Transcribed 3 Jan 2001 from Bloomfield-Eastern Greene County Public Library’s IHS Microfilm Records.] Joseph MCLAUGHLIN was born in Ireland, December 25, 1801. He came to America in 1845, and settled in Guernsey County, Ohio. In November 1846, he married Deborah FRAME, who preceded him to the Spirit Land by more than twenty years. In 1855 he moved to Indiana and located one mile east of Solsberry, Greene County, where he continued to live until his death, which occurred October 20, 1896. He was reared under Presbyterian influence, but never united with any church until some time after settling in Indiana, when he was converted and joined the M. E. church, organized in a class at HANNUM’S School house, which was afterwards transferred to Solsberry. He was a faithful worker in the church during all the years he was able to get to the house of God. For seven years past he was unable to walk, and was deprived of the privilege of the sanctuary, but he loved to have ministers and Christian people visit him. He seldom waited for the preacher to suggest the reading of the scripture, and prayer. He did this, and heartily enjoyed such seasons.’ “Uncle Joe,” as he was familiarly known, was a remarkable man in many ways. Although living nearly ninety-five years, he said he never had a pain or ache in all his long life. He knew from experience nothing of headache, toothache, etc., and never employed a doctor or took any medicine. One habit to which he strictly adhered, was to never eat as much as he wanted. Perhaps this had much to do with his freedom from the common ailments to which most of mankind are subject. He died literally of old age. During all the years of his helplessness, Uncle Joe MCLAUGHLIN was most tenderly cared for by his son, James MCLAUGHLIN, and his family. They never tired of ministering to his necessities. Love made the task a pleasure, which otherwise would have been a burden. Three other children survive. Two live in Kansas and one, Rev. John MCLAUGHLIN, a successful Methodist preacher, in Texas. — NOTES—RLJ: CEMETERIES OF EASTERN GREENE COUNTY, INDIANA, 1994, G.C.H.S., Beech Creek Township, Solsberry Cemetery, Page 38, Column 3: MCLAUGHLIN, Joseph 1801—189[6]; MCLAUGHLIN, Deborah, 1812—1876.
