Turtle.......the indians that roamed around in that area were Delaware indians. I am also descended from indians in that area, my great grandfather Sherman General Maple b.1866?was half Munsee-Delaware indian. His mother was Sarah E. Ross, and she was born in Wheeling Township, Guernsey county, Ohio. I would research the Munsee-Delaware indian......google it. Do you have any documentation on proof? How I got proof, I was lucky enough that my great grandfather's brother wrote he was half indian on his World War II draft registration card.....other than that, it has always been a family story......my grandfather was a dark man, and so was my mother. jamie -----Original Message----- From: gc-gateway@rootsweb.com <gc-gateway@rootsweb.com> To: OHGUERNS-L@rootsweb.com Sent: Fri, 4 Apr 2008 2:59 am Subject: [OHGUERNS] Native American Heritage This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Her full name was Anna Gracilla Voorhies b 3-24-1878. Married Joseph Albert Voorhes. Cousins married cousins. Father was Zera Albert Voorhies and her mother was Mary Hawkins per her death certificate. She died June 15th 1950. I can trace my Voorhies ancestors back to the original three in 1830. However , I cant find the connection for my Hawkins in the early census records. Betty Shinns early birth records for Guernsey County records Zera Albert and a May E Hawkins had a child on August 15, 1880. Any help would be appreciated or suggestions you may have would be welcomed. I know she is buried in Old Washington cemetery but no information is available on her tombstone and as I understand the records were destroyed by a fire. Thank you in advance for any assistance. I seek information on cemeteries in Center Township, or near that township's boundary. Specifically, I am seeking the grave of Isaac Decker, an ancestor, born 1785 or 1786 in New Jersey, died 1 or 7 March 1836. He was living in Center Township in the 1830 census, probably on rented land since there is no record of land ownership in the land records of Guernsey County. It is not certain that he is buried in Guernsey County, but I would love to know where he is buried. Ronald Overton Decker, Chicago, IL **************It's Tax Time!
