Where did these people live and in what years they were there? I need to know which papers to check. If I put the name "Nathan Evans" in a search for ALL papers - I would have no idea if I were transcribing the correct Nathan. Hiya Linda, Nathan Evans in particular. I have Nathan married to Elizabeth Jane Way (do not know who her parents are) and Susan M. Metcalf who married a Boze Loffland first (also do not know her parents). If you can find any info on the two wives in there it would be most appreciated. His third wife was Terzah Duvall...although I have some info am always willing to take more! LOL Thanks in advance for anything you can come up with, Lainee > [Original Message] > From: Linda Holley <ljholley@comcast.net> > To: <ohguerns@rootsweb.com> > Date: 6/12/2008 8:12:22 PM > Subject: Re: [OHGUERNS] Local Historical Sketches > > I have sat for the last 3 days and transcribed the ones for my > family. How disappointing that I can't post them! I guess the only way to deal with it for the moment is to send them to anyone who might be interested. Also, if anyone cares to send me the surnames of interest, I can keep a look out for them as I read. Betty Shinn has also said that she might post them on her website, so let's see if that happens. Unfortunately, I don't have the time to transcribe them at the moment. Hope I can find a way to share them. They are great little nuggets of info. Have you thought about getting them scanned, edited, and posted to the Guernsey County GenWeb site? If the articles can be scanned, the digital files can be sent to those willing to edit the OCR files, and send them to the website. I'd be willing to some editing. That is, of course, if the Coordinator is willing to accept them. Just a thot. Is there anyway you could post the titles of each of the 26 articles? I have been doing the same thing in Lawrence Co. and Butler Co., PA. with the Newspaper Archives, The Godfrey Library, and CDs from Butler. I have transcribed about 20 or so social events, obits, and even the transcript of a murder trial for my ancestors and I have only just begun. It is a lot of work but it gives us a window into their lives and makes them become more than a name on a pedigree chart. Elizabeth, You can't send attachments to RootsWeb lists. The only way to do something like that is to transcribe it and send it as plain text. I have a subscription to NewspaperArchive.com and I have been doing a lot of family research in the Cambridge Jeffersonian. During my research, I found a collection of articles published in 1893/1894 called "Local Historical Sketches, Miscellaneous Events from 1813 to the Present." There are about 28 articles and they provide an interesting view of the history of Guernsey County written from the perspective of someone in 1893. Keep in mind that these are image files and since the original was not in the best of shape, there are some bits that are unreadable. The thing I like about them is that they provide a view into daily life of the time that you can't find in Census records or other official docs. I've attached a copy of the first article and if there is interest I am happy to send more. Elizabeth Garland ebarwick@hotmail.com
