Elizabeth, Is there any Maple's or Fuller's in the sketches? jamie
Hi Sharon. Yes that was me. I recently found out that my ancestor (Robert James Campbell) was definitely the nephew of Alexander Campbell, which means that his father was probably AC's younger brother Thomas. If you have seen anything about them in your book, I'd be much appreciated to hear it. Regardless, I will keep a look out for the Shumans as I read the articles. I have 2 small children at home so it is going to take me awhile to read all 28 articles but I promise to write back ASAP. Elizabeth: I am not at home right now so I can not give you exact dates but I would like to see if there is any mention of the Arnold's in Fairview, Ohio. I Have George Albert, Lyda, and seven children. I will try and get a list of all of the children's names when I return home around June 23, 2008. Also I am looking for any mention of the McMullen's in and around the same area. His name was Elmer Onsalo McMullen. I am still trying to confirm who his parents were. Him and his wife Lucy are buried in the Fairview Cemetery. Their daughter was my Dad's first wife. There are about 28 articles and they provide an interesting view of the history of Guernsey County written from the perspective of someone in 1893. Keep in mind that these are image files and since the original was not in the best of shape, there are some bits that are unreadable. The thing I like about them is that they provide a view into daily life of the time that you can't find in Census records or other official docs. Hello, Elizabeth, If there is any mention of the Shuman family in the articles I would be awfully glad to see it. The names would be John, Elizabeth, Clarissa, Jonathan, Moses, Ezekiel, Daniel, in Madison, Wills, Oxford, and Millwood Twps. (there is another unrelated Shuman family in Beaver), from about 1800 on. I believe it was you I was talking to earlier about the Campbells? I'm reading Ancestors by William Maxwell. He has a great deal to say about the history of the Christian Church (or Disciples of Christ, as they were, and are, also called). He says Alexander Campbell always lived in SW PA, Greene Co., I think. I thought of that. Since they are already in electronic format, I could use an OCR on them but I can tell that I will have a great deal of trouble with it because the scanned image is not good at all. I fear that if I put them through an OCR, it will only recognize every 10th letter. That's how bad they are. Whoever scanned the original newspaper pages should be punished!!Eventually I will get around to it and then transcribing them but in the meantime, this is what we have to work with. Hi Elizabeth! Will you check & see if William & Mary Drake are mentioned please? They moved to Guernsey Co. from Harrison Co.,OH. circa 1835.They were my 3X great-grandparents. If any Drake is mentioned they might be related to me. Thanks for looking for me. Pam Drake in IN. padrake@sbcglobal.net
Roberta, The attachments are pretty self-explanatory. I included the front cover of each book to help you. The Guernsey County Genealogical Society in Cambridge has a considerable amount of information and is a most helpful resource.
