    2. Dorothy Morgan
    3. Sorry. James Paxton refered to in your message was born and lived in Monroe Township, Guernsey County. I believe the Nathaniel Paxton of Westland Township, Guernsey County was the son of another Samuel Paxton who lived in Cumberland, Spencer Townshp, Guernsey County. The two families may be related some generations back but are distant cousins at best. The Samuel from Spencer Township came from Rockbridge County, Virginia. ----- Original Message ----- From: <gc-gateway@rootsweb.com> To: <OHGUERNS-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Friday, December 05, 2008 5:30 PM Subject: Re: [OHGUERNS] Nathaniel Paxton > This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. > > Author: jdrwilson > Surnames: > Classification: queries > > Message Board URL: > > http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.ohio.counties.guernsey/4436.1/mb.ashx > > Message Board Post: > > I found info on James Paxton, who was born in Guernsey County, Ohio, > 12/3/1819. 2. Jimmy Rosamond
    3. I am looking for descendants of Philip Rosemond and Moses Morton Rosemond who lived in Guernsey County, OH in the mid-1800s. This family descended from a James Rosemond who lived in County Leitrim, Ireland in the early 1700s. Other members of this same family settled in Lanark, Ontario, Canada. The southern Rosamond family is also said to be descended from this same family, as are the Rosamond families in Australia and New Zealand. I am trying to tie all the branches of the family together. The information on the family in Guernsey County, OH is shown below. I'd appreciate hearing from anyone who has any information regarding this family. 1. [OHGUERNS] Post only obit for Mrs. Highly Shipley 1909 aged 100 years.
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: TerryWillis124 Surnames: Classification: obituary Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.ohio.counties.guernsey/4451/mb.ashx Message Board Post: AGED PIONEER HAS SUCCUMBED IN 100TH YEAR. Although she was in her one hundredth year, Mrs. Highly Shipley, mother of Mrs. Henry Little of Blaine Ave and one of the oldest women in the state, who died at the home of her son, O.M. Shipley, in New Concord, Wednesday night retained practically all her faculties so as to see, hear and talk until five weeks before her death. The end of the aged lady came peacefully and quietly. For three of four weeks before dissolution ensued, she was unable to take nourishment, and simply wasted away. The few remaining relatives of the almost centenarian had been summoned to her beside, as it was realized the end was near, but Mrs. Shipley was unconscious for several days before her death. The death of Mrs. Shipley marks the passing of one who come to the Buckeye State in earlier pioneer days, and one who endured the many hardships of pioneer life in her early girlhood, for her parents came to Guernsey County when she was only a few years of age. The deceased was born in Pennsylvania, Nov. 9, 1809, and until several months ago it was though that she would reach the century mark. But the weight of her years bore heavily upon her all at once, and when the last decline set in her aged frame sufficient vitality left in her aged frame to withstand the insidious attacks of disease. Mrs. Shipley lived in Guernsey County, where her parents immigrated until seven years ago, when she moved with her son, O.M. Shipley, a prominent merchant. Until fives weeks ago she was able to move about to a large extent and enjoyed life as much as possible for one if her great age. She delighted to recount incidents of the olden days, when Ohio was settled, and she never lacked listeners. The deceased was the only one of her family to attain so great an aged. Her husband died a number of years ago, but there survives her one sister, Mrs. Eliza Jane Hunt, of Guernsey County, who is eight her junior and in very fair health. The son, O.M. Shipley and one daughter, Mrs. Mary Little of Cambridge, are the only living surviving children. Mrs. Shipley was an ardent church worker until her age precluded her from being very active in church circles. When she went to New Concord she became affiliated with the United Presbyterian Church at that place, and took a great delight on attending church services as long as she was able. The funeral over the remains of the remarkable woman will be held at 1 o'clock Friday afternoon at the United Presbyterian Church in New Concord, and Rev. Richie will deliver the funeral oration. Vorhies, wife of Dr. E.E. Vorhies, at the family home on North Fourth Street last evening about 11:30 o'clock. Cancer of the stomach was the cause of the dissolution. Mrs. Vorhies was 43 years of age. Mrs. was born at Stafford, Monroe County, O., and was a daughter of Charles and Jane Cooper. She was married to Dr. E.E. Vorhies in the year 1884, and had lived here about 13 years. The deceased is survived by her husband and two children, both of whom are young men, Homer C., aged 23, and Clyde L., aged 21, both are students in the S.O.M.U. She is also survived by one half-brother, James Foster of Lore City, and two sisters, Mrs. Maggie Morris of Cairo, West Va., and Mrs. Anne Smith of Casey, Iowa. The deceased was a member of the First M.E. Church and took great interest in the work. She has been a great sufferer all her life and death came as a great relief to her. An operation was preformed about a year ago last February which furnished relief only for a short time. Everything that medical aid could do was done for her but all to no avail. The many friends of the bereaved ones extend their sympathy to them in this their loss of a good wife and loving mother. The kind and loving husband of the deceased, attentive at all hours, was most appreciated in securing relief for the suffering patient during her last few days. Funeral services over the body will be conducted Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the First M.E. Church, the pastor C.N. Church officiating. Interment will be made in Northwood Cemetery. 1. [OHGUERNS] Y-DNA Surname Project for the surname(s) Rosamond/Rosemond/Roseman/and other variations
    2. Jimmy Rosamond
    3. A Y-DNA Surname Project for the surname(s) Rosamond/Rosemond/Roseman/and other variations has been established and can be joined online at Family Tree DNA. The project is intended to try to genetically link the various Rosamond families who through the years have begun using alternate spellings, as well as tie together those lines of Rosamonds living in various parts of the US, Canada and the world. In particular, this will determine which branches of the Rosamond families are descended from the legendary Sergeant Rosemond of Ireland, which from Jacob Rosenmann, and which from other progenitors and areas. If you are a male with the surname Rosamond (or have a surname with any variation thereof) please consider joining the project. Or if you have any male friends or relatives with a variant of the surname Rosamond, please encourage them to join the project. In order to join go to the following website: http://www.familytreedna.com/ Click on the "SURNAME PROJECTS" link on the left side of the page. Wait for the next page to load. In the chart for "Y-DNA SURNAME PROJECTS", click on the letter "R" (followed by a number). The number is the number of surname projects currently available starting with that letter. Either (1) enter "Rosamond" in the search box and click on the "Project Search" link, or (2) scroll down the list of surnames and click on the name "Rosamond" Both options take you to the page where you can enter your personal information and order a test kit. Note that this information remains private except for advising me, as the project administrator, that you have ordered a kit and joined the project. Click on the drop-down arrow at the end of the "Type of Test" line in order to see the options for the various kits that can be ordered. The only one required to join the project is the Y-12 marker kit. Ordering your kit automatically puts you in as a member of the project. Possible alternative spellings are: Rosamond, Rosemond, Rosemon, Roseman, Rosemund, etc. In my genealogical research I have come across over 40 alternate spellings in various records. A website is now online for the project at http://www.familytreedna.com/public/rosamond. Thanks to all, and please contact me at jdrosamond@comcast.net if you have any questions. Jimmy D.
