    2. G. R. Tafini
    3. I am new to this list. I am interested in families that left Guernsey, Channel Islands in the early 1800's and settled in Guernsey County and Muskingum County, Ohio, USA. My wife's GIBAUT / GIBEAUT ancestors were part of that group. I received a specific request for help from a researcher who lives in Guernsey, Channel Islands. She is interested in making contact with anyone who is researching the OGIER Family in Ohio. She would like to know if there is a marriage record in Guernsey Co., OH for Pierre or Peter OGIER who married Judith _____ before 1840. She said that there is a quilt in Guernsey, Channel Islands made by Judith OGIER in the 1840's. She also has heard that there is another quilt made by Judith OGIER on display in a museum, possibly in Cambridge, OH. Is anyone familiar with Judith OGIER's quilt and where it is displayed? Thanks for your help, Gary R. Tafini gtafini@tir.com Ypsilanti, Michigan, USA

    1. [OHGUERNS] Obits
    2. I have been wading through microfilm looking for my families. At some point I began trying to keep track of obituaries, because I am related to so many people from the area. I have been posting them to the Belmont list because I have been using Belmont papers (Enterprise, Chronicle, etc.) but they also contain various other counties including Harrison, Guernsey, Monroe and Noble. You might check them out. I list the name, maiden name if available and applicable and the date of the source. I am trying to abstract them as much as possible with: Name Maiden Name date of death place of death where buried who survived them any genealogical info that was included. Then, if I see an unusual name reoccur, I note that also on the obit card-so sometimes there's a couple items.... It's a long shot, but it's probably worth a look. Email me if you see a name that connects with you. Pam

    2. B Ellis
    3. Replying to Caroline Robinson, but also hoping someone recognizes some of these names! My ancestor, John PERL was also in Co. G of the OVI 174th. He enlisted 26 Aug 1864 at Millwood and mustered in on 31 Aug 1964 at Uhrichsville commanded by CAPT EVANS. From muster records, he was in the hospital at Clifton TN on 13 Jan 1865 and then sent to Campbell Hospital in Washington DC. From there, he was transferred to 181 OVI per General Order No No 11 dated June 15 1865, and was in Co. G. under CAPT George KONNSZ (? - writing hard to read). John PERL was then discharged 14 July 1865 at Salisbury NC. For the 174th, Co. G., muster rolls show that the company was in Charlotte NC June 28, 1865. I don't have anything more on the 174th, but searching. John PERL's pension file has affidavits from Thomas McFARLAND Sr., and Thomas Jr. of Guernsey Co. that theyu were acquainted with John about 2 years prior to his enlistment and 2 years after his return. If any of these names are familiar to anyone, please let me know. I've been trying to follow John's trail and know that he lived a few years in Guernsey Co., but no other other details on where. Beale is one of them. I have one BEALE... Tirza R. Beale was married to Charles Gillespie McCormick 10 Oct 1900. I do not have the parentage of Tirza. They had two sons, both b. in Guernsey, Paul Eugene, 1903 and Wm Carl McCormick, 1914. In Wm Wolfes Stories of Guernsey Co, there are 3 Beal/Beall's mentioned. Pg 832 notes Isaac Beal of Monroe township had 22 children. (that's one generation that's full time work for any genealogist.) Pg 85 notes Elijah Beall was appointed Clerk on Apr 23, 1810, at the Board of County Commisioners first meeting. Pg 913 is a description of the commerce of the town of Millwood,in Millwood Twp., and in 1842, Sarah Beall opened the first millinery store. Hope that gives you some clues into your Beall's.

Lindsey.” [Transcribed from Bloomfield-Eastern Greene County Public Library’s IHS Microfilm Records.] Benjamin F. LINDSEY was born in Guernsey County, Ohio, February 13, 1834; died October 9, 1902, aged sixty-eight years seven months and twenty-six days, at his home near Solsberry, Indiana, of Bright’s disease and heart failure. He was married to Mary Jane SMITH October 16, 1856 in Ohio, removed to Indiana, near the place where he died, remaining there until his death. To them were born seven children, six of whom, and his good wife, survive him. He was a kind and loving husband and father, a good neighbor, and had a host of friends to mourn his untimely loss. He was a patient sufferer, and was often heard to remark that he was not afraid to die. He was not a member of the church, but died claiming a home with our Father, whose will it was to take him away to a world of peace and joy beyond, where there is no suffering. He is gone and a home is broken, but we have the promise of a reunion to those who are faithful. His work is ended and a vacancy is left in the hearts of all who knew him. His remains were laid to rest in the Newark Cemetery by a host of friends, neighbors and relatives, who mourn him as gone, but not forgotten. The funeral services were held at Newark M. E. church, Rev. H. H. Allen, of the Bloomfield church, officiating. October 28, 1902. My husband's ancestor, Thomas Robinson, enlisted into Co. G of this Reg't on Aug 22, 1864 in Columbus, OH. He was from Oxford Twp, Guernsey Co., OH (16th Dist), although one Muster Roll says Oxford Twp, Belmont (16th) Dist. Unfortunately, I have no info as to exact troops movements and/or battles with the following exceptions taken from his Application for Pension: (1) Pvt. Robinson was honorably discharged at "Charlott", and (2) "That on the move from Tenn. to South Carolina on or about June 20, 1864" [sic., s/b 1865], he had his feet frozen due to exposure...." I would like to know a lot more about the 174th OVI should you have any info on such unit. My online research has turned up almost nothing. Carolyn

    3. Posted on: Guernsey Co. OH Queries Forum Board URL: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Oh/Guernsey?read=953 Surname: Porter, Sullivan, Addy ------------------------- Teresa -- Bingo! I just received a copy of page 134 of "Pioneer Cemeteries of Guernsey County," compiled by Conner and Goodpaster, 1963. On it, it lists Samuel Porter, 1848 - 1924, and Susan A. Porter, 1842-1906. Samuel Porter and Susan A[manda] Addy were married March 21, 1872. The license was issued on March 19, 1872; James A. Berry "having made application for a license for Samuel Porter and Susan A. Addy." Susan is listed in Book 3, page. 188 of Record of Deaths, Probate Court, Guernsey Co., Ohio, having died on Oct. 17, 1906 at the age of 65 in Kimbolton. On Oct. 26, 1906, The Weekly Guernsey Timers (Cambridge, Ohio), published the obituary of Mrs. Samuel Porter, aged 65. "She was the mother of seven children, two to her first husband [Robert Addy], Sadie [Addy Williams] of St. Louis, Mo., John [Addy] of Ill. Those of her second marriage, Sheldon of Dover, Wilber of Cleveland, Howard of Uhrichsville, Charles and Bertha of this place, all married. The four sons and two son-in-laws acted as pall bearers. The funeral took place at the M.E. church on the 19th inst., conducted by the Rev. H. W. Stewart and interment made in the South cemetery. "G.W. Sullivan was brought from the Infirmary by Supt. Gibson to the funeral of his sister, Mrs. Susan Porter of this place." Susan's first marriage to Robert Addy, s/o Anthony Turner Addy and Sarah Norris, took place on Sept. 13, 1860. John Addy (later married Harriet Sheely, November 29, 1880, Tuscawaras Co., Ohio) was born Nov. 12, 1861; Sadie J. Addy (married George Williams, s/o James and Ann Williams on May 26, 1887, Guernsey Co.), was born Aug. 10, 1863/4 (conflict in dates). Robert enlisted, probably with his brother, in the 51st Ohio Infantry Co., H on Feb. 17, 1864, at age 24. He was killed June 21, 1864. Pension Index records Susan A. Addy applied for a widow's pension on Dec. 11, 1864, No. 74,076. You can read Susan's widow's pension file at this site, or visit genforum.com (Sullivan and Addy forums). The children of Samuel and Susan Porter were Sheldon, b. 1873, Wilmer, b. 1874, Charles, b. 1877, Howard, b. 1879, and Bertha, b. Feb. 1881. I can't quite make out the 1900 census information, which lists Samuel Porter as having been born [month illegible] 1848, Susan b. Feb. 1844 (fudging here, I think!), and that Susan and Samuel had been married 29 years, both born in Ohio. Samuel lists both parents as having been born in Ohio; Susan's parents were born in Ohio (father) and Virginia (mother, Sarah). Samuel's occupation seems to have been stone mason. Oddly enough, the 1900 census lists another son, John, b. 1889. Sandy
