    1. [OHGUERNS] Central Ohio District Fair
    2. Doug and Patti Ensor
    3. Can anyone tell me when the Central Ohio District Fair was first held? I found a reference to the "Central Ohio District Fair Association, in Coshocton Co., one half mile west of Newcomerstown" (Tuscarawas Co.) in a copy of an 1881 obituary for James Mulvane. I believe that the fair was held on land granted to Mathias Denman and sold to William Mulvain/Mulvane prior to 1810. William sold portions of the land to David Douglass and James Douglass, and some to his brothers John and Joseph Mulvain. (Note: I would love to connect with anyone who has information on where to look for recorded deeds of pre-1810 vintage - these transactions are not recorded in the Coshocton files filmed by the LDS, but are confirmed in subsequent deeds, 1820 and later, and the county clerk's tax file info) I am looking for confirmation that the fair was held in Section 1, Township 5, Range 4 of the US Military District. The land was in Tuscarawas County from 1808 to 1810 when Coshocton Co. was erected. Since this area is just a few miles from Guernsey County, I am sending this message to that readership as well. Does anyone else have any references to this fair, its origins, location, etc.? Is the fair still operating? Patti

It is directly behind the court house in the center of town. Address and times can be found on the Guernsey County GenWeb web site: http://www.usgennet.org/usa/oh/county/guernsey/ > I plan a trip to Guernsey County June 8th, 9th. Many resources are duplicated in the library. I would probably spend most of my time in the library's Findley Room, and when it is closed go over to the court house. > I have seen references to a book "Portrait and Biographical Record of > Guernsey Co., Ohio" and also "Stories of Guernsey Co.", by William Wolfe. > Would love to be able to find a copy of these books to look through. Both of those are probably at that library. When I was there last summer, Wolfe's book was also available as a reprint in a bookstore just west of the courthouse. > My ancestors are reportedly buried in Old Kimbolton Cem in Guernsey County. > Could anyone supply directions as to where this is? The U.S. Geographic Names Information System <http://mapping.usgs.gov/www/gnis/gnisform.html> is really helpful in finding things like cemeteries, in addition to land forms and populated places. It provides information at this address for "Kimbolton Cemetery" (I don't know if this is the same as "Old Kimbolton Cemetery"): http://mapping.usgs.gov:8888/gnis/owa/gnisprod?f_name=Kimbolton&variant=Y&f_state=OH&f_cnty=Guernsey&f_type=cemetery&pop1=&pop2=&elev1=&elev2=&cell=&tab=y From here you can link to a map: http://mapping.usgs.gov:8888/gnis/owa/MapServer?f_name=Kimbolton+Cemetery&f_state=OH&f_latlong=400830N0813343W&server=TIGER S R C A cott obert ranston nderson phssra@physics.emory.edu Administrator, {C{OFFIELD,OLLOSKY,RANSTON,UMMINS},OHGUERNS}-L@rootsweb.com USGenWeb Coordinator, http://www.usgennet.org/usa/oh/county/guernsey/

    3. Posted on: Guernsey Co. OH Queries Forum Board URL: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Oh/Guernsey?read=967 Surname: Dennis, Ball, Hill, Valentine ------------------------- We are looking for any information on Ashford Dennis, born about 1824 in Claysville, Guernsey County, who married Mary Jane Hill or Mary Jane Ball (we are still uncertain but lean strongly towards Hill) daughter of W M Hill and Ziza Ball (names provided by older family members and not documented). Mary Jane was born about 1829 in Claysville, Guernsey County. Ashford Dennis appeared as head of household in 1850 County census and he served during the Civil War. We would appreciate any information on Union Army regiments or units formed in Guernsey or Muskingum County. Ashford had nine children, Evaline (1850), Liston (1852), Thomas(1855), Charles (1857) Harriett (1860), Lucy (1866), Joseph Austin (husband's ggfather - b. 1869), John (1872) and Amelia (1876). All were born in Claysville, Guernsey County. Joseph Austin Dennis moved to Illinois as a young man, married there, but we believe he returned to Ohio as his daughter, Ruth, (husband's gmother) married a man from Guernsey County, Clark Valentine.
