OH Queries Forum Board URL: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Oh/Guernsey?read=998 Surname: Haney, Dudley ------------------------- Hello there from Marlton, NJ My Haney connection is through Thomas Haney (b. 1832 in Penna, d. 1880 in Muskingum County, Ohio). In 1854, he married Susannah Dudley. Dudley is one of my main family lines. This is what I have on him: ! Birth, death and other information from 1911 Book, "Genealogy of the Hannum Family" by Curtis H. Hannum of West Chester, Penna. was: Susanna Dudley; b. 3-22-1831, Senecaville, Guernsey Co., Ohio; d. 9-23-1877, High Hill, Muskingum Co., Ohio; buried at Brookfield Cemetery, 3 miles west from Cumberland, Guernsey Co.; m. 1-5-1854, Senecaville, Thomas Haney (b. 3-25-1832, Pennsylvania; d. 7-30-1880, Coal Hill, Muskingum Co., and buried at Brookfield Cemetery; son of Thomas Haney and Catharine White, of Cumberland.) Thomas, Jr. died from heart disease aggravated from the excitement attending the burning of his stable; he was a farmer; a member of the Baptist Church. I have nothing else regarding his parents or siblings. It is possible that Jeremiah was a sibling of this Thomas, but I have no information about that. A film of the book is available through any Mormon Church Family History Center. However, Since Susannah was a Hannum line descendant, I kind of doubt that there is any further information in the book about his parents or siblings. Regards, Bill

I too am searching for Haney's in this area. I DO know that my great grandfather, Charles Thoma HANEY was born in Guernsey County on May 21, 1872. His father, Jeremiah "Jerry" HANEY was also born in that county on March 28, 1852. Jerry's father, Thomas, was also born in that county. Jerry married Mary Caroline DAVIS and they had several children: my great grandfather, Charels Thomas, Vernon, Thomas W., Per Lee, Maude (who married a man named Howard LONG) and Carrie (she married a man by the name of James E. BAILEY in Guernsey County on November 18, 1895). This is about all I know of my ancestors and don't know if it will help you. Hope it does!!

    3. Posted on: Guernsey Co. Oh Obituaries Board URL: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Oh/GuernseyObits?read=61 Surname: GLOVER, LAWHEAD ------------------------- THE BLOOMFIELD NEWS, Bloomfield, Greene County, Indiana, Friday, January 1, 1892, Volume XXIII, Number 42, Page 3, Columns 2, “Obituary.” [Transcribed from Bloomfield-Eastern Greene County Public Library’s IHS Microfilm Records.] John D. GLOVER died near Solsberry, Greene County, Indiana, December 15, 1891 in his seventy third year. He was born in Guernsey County, Ohio, June 10, 1819. March 2, 1836 he was married to Susan LAWHEAD. To them were given twelve children, three of whom precede their father. He moved to Solsberry in 1857. He united with the Congregational church when it was first organized at Solsberry. He was a true husband and loving father. His parental care extended not only over his own family, but also over his grandchildren, he having cared for some of them in his home. His neighbors only knew him to love him, and with the family feel their sad loss. His cheerful, genial nature won him friends wherever he went. He was the last survivor of a large family. — THE BLOOMFIELD NEWS, Bloomfield, Greene County, Indiana, Friday, January 1, 1892, Volume XXIII, Number 42, Page 3, Column 3— Mr. William GLOVER, of New Albany, passed through town Tuesday on his way to Solsberry. He is the oldest son of the late John D. GLOVER, and has not been a resident of this county since the war. He had not heard of his father’s death before reaching here Tuesday morning. — NOTE—RLJ: CEMETERIES OF EASTERN GREENE COUNTY, 1994, G.C.H.S., Beech Creek Township, Solsberry Cemetery, Page 36, Column 2: GLOVER, John D. 10 Jun 1819—15 Dec 1891; GLOVER, Susannah 12 Feb 1821—19??. 1. [OHGUERNS] Garrett Mathews (c.1795)
    2. Scott L Byrd
    3. For all of those interested, I just received the death certificate for Nancy Mathews Mellott, wife of Abraham Mellott. The primary objective of obtaining this was to get a clue as to who her parents were. It lists her father as UNKNOWN and her mother as Garrett Mathews. This is obviously a mistake as Garrett is a man's name. There is a Garrett Mathews in Jackson Twp, Monroe County, Ohio in the 1840 Census and he does have a daughter in the 10-15 age group which corresponds with Nancy's birthdate of 7 May 1828. This is probably the same Garrett Mathews who is found in Guernsey County, Ohio in 1820 and marries a Rebecca Bendure (Bender) in 1817. It seems he moves a lot because I think he is the Merret Mathews that is in Belmont County, Ohio in 1830. His final location seems to be Washington County, Ohio in 1850. I've done some surfing in search of more information, but have not found a link to Nancy. I do think this line may go back to an earlier Garrett Mathews of New Jersey, who is a Revolutionary War Vet. Any thoughts or information would be helpful. Scott Byrd Pensacola, FL

    3. Thanks to everyone who responded with suggestions regarding my upcoming opportunity to visit the NARA. For those who asked, yes, I was referring to the one in DC. A lot of people responded and so I would like to send this note of appreciation to everyone. Every single person who sent me ideas or suggestions thought of including something that no one else had. It will all be so helpful since my time will be so limited (I wish I could spend 2 weeks instead of 1 day!). Again, thanks so much to each and every one of you who shared your experiences, ideas, and suggestions with me. I truly appreciate the time you took to respond. Patti
