Listers, I was in an antique shop this week in Columbus and found a booklet of Guernsey County death certificates from 1900 to 1901. There appears to be about 20-30 certificates in the book. Is this something that someone or some group would be interested in purchasing? The price listed was around $80. I do not remember the name of the shop but it was on S. High not too far from my house and I can run back there if someone has an interest. Not a usual lister, Shawn McCormick

Posted on: Guernsey Co. Oh Obituaries Board URL: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Oh/GuernseyObits?read=74 Surname: SIGMAN, DISS, WHITIS ------------------------- The Daily Jeffersonian Cambridge, Ohio (Guernsey County) Saturday Evening March 4, 1944 Cambridge Girl Dies In Overseas Service First Lieut. Blanche SIGMAN, 36, daughter of Joseph SIGMAN, of East Cambridge, and frequently cited for distinguished service with the U. S. Army Nurses Corps, was killed Feb. 7 when Germans made a cowardly attack upon the American field hospital on the Anzio, Italy, beachhead. A telegram from the war department at Washington, D. C. was received by her father, announcing his daughter's death. Several nurses were victims of the German bombs in the attack, as well as wounded American troops. Since the bombing of the American field hospital, of which Lieut. SIGMAN was in charge of the nurses, relatives and friends of the Cambridge girl have anxiously awaited word from her. No message was received until her father got the telgram Friday which disclosed her death. Lieut. SIGMAN was born in Cambridge township and graduated from Byesville high school in 1926. She went to New York City where she trained for three years in Bellevue Hospital and then she served as traveling nurse in Buffalo, N. Y. Returning to Ohio, Miss SIGMAN became county nurse with headquarters in Akron. It was while residing there that she enlisted in the army nurses corps on July 1, 1942. One year ago in February she went overseas. She served with distinction with the American forces in North Africa and had charge of the nurses attached to a field hospital on the invasion of Sicily. She also discharged similar duties on the invasion of Italy and often exposed herself to enemy fire in order to give first aid to American boys who fell wounded. Lieut. SIGMAN was aboard a hospital ship bombed in the Mediterranean several months ago and was credited with saving the lives of four nurses when the vessel sunk. When the Anzio beachhead attack was made, she landed with the invading troops and assisted in setting up the field hospital. There she remained on duty until the German bombs ended her useful career. The death of Miss SIGMAN was received with sorrow by her many friends in Cambridge and Guernsey county. The last letter received by her father was dated January 25 and referred to the Christmas presents sent her. He had written her at least once a week since she had been in the service. The deceased leaves her father, Joseph SIGMAN; six brothers, Richard, R.D. 4; Robert, Ravenna; Ronald, R.D. 4; Roger, serving with the medical corps at Great Bend, Kan.; and William and Franklin, of the home; two sisters, Mrs. Dorathy DISS, East Cambridge, and Miss Sarah SIGMAN, of Akron, and her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Bert WHITIS, East Wheeling Ave.

David MANEILLY was born in County Antrim, Ireland, July 13, 1851, and died at his work near Byesville Nov. 18, 1922, aged 71 years, 4 months and 5 days. In his early young manhood he moved to Scotland and was there united in marriage to Miss Janet MIDDLETON Dec. 21, 1869, and to this union there were born eleven children, viz: Mrs. Catherine MOFFATT, David, John, Samuel, Thomas, George and Mrs. Jessie LANNING all deceased; James of Ava, Mrs. Lizzie BISHARD, Mrs. Maggie FORAKER and William all of Byesville, who together with the widow survive the faithful and mourn his loss. When but a young man living in Scotland he accepted Christ as his Saviour and from that time his life has been identified with the church; after coming to Guernsey county he united with the U. B. church where he was a recognized leader until he united with the First Baptist church of Byesville and was baptized by the present pastor Rev. W. H. WILSON. His devotion to the cause of Christ early marked him as a trustworthy leader and on July 1, 1906, he was ordained to the Deaconate of the First Baptist church of Byesville where he honored his sacred office until removed by death. David Maneilly possessed remarkable and rare traits of character; he was courageous, fearless, and sturdy as the rock-ribbed mountains and yet possessed a spirit as---(unreadable) as gentle and kind, as a fond mother. The sunshine of his presence and the kindnessof his heart won even the hearts of little children, of whom he had many beloved friends who will miss him and long for his presence again. He was a man who loved his country and stood on the right side of every great moral question. He loved religious liberty and when in his home land was an enthusiastic orangeman. In his departure the family loses a devoted husband, an affectionate father, the church one of its most faithful members and Byesville one of her truest citizens. Funeral services were conducted in the First Baptist church Tuesday afternoon at 1:30 p. m. by his pastor. Interment(sic) took place at the Enon cemetery. The numerous floral tributes, and the large throng of people who attended the obsequies were but a fitting expression of the high esteem in which he was held by all the people. Card of Thanks Mrs. David MANEILLY and family desire to express their heartfelt thanks to the friends and good neighbors, to the pastor Rev. G. H. HERLAN and to all who so kindly remembered the departed father and husband with their floral tributs. Mrs. Janet MANEILLY and Family.

Peter said < I have a good bit on the Moores and related families. > We have Hannah Moore born November 4, 1802, probably in Fayette County, PA. She married Thomas Clark also from western PA. They arrived in Madison Township, Perry County in 1836, with several children. Hannah was a remarkable woman. She made her mark in Perry County by helping to organize and reorganize Mt. Perry's Methodist Episcopal church. Thomas died in 1855 and Hanna left her older married children and for some reason went on to buy a farm near Champaign Illinois. Where she was very successful. She died there after 1877. Why she left two married children and struck out - apparently on her own - for a new life in Illinois is a mystery. She is mentioned in Perry County History books in connection with her church work and one of her sons relates some of the family history in an 1877 autobiographical sketch - which someone in Illinois sent me years ago - thanks again. Any comments from anyone? Hal
