I'm really not surprised that you couldn't find the cemetery, I'm sure I never would have found it the first time if my Dad hadn't been with me, he grew up around there and remembered several funerals there. Even so, we didn't find it right away. I hopw this map, http://terraserver.microsoft.com/image.asp?S=14&T=2&X=138&Y=1389&Z=17&W=2, along with a description, will help you. Coming from Plainfield on 541, shortly after you cross the county line into Guernsey Co., there was an old barn that looked like it was going to fall down on the left. I think it's before you cross Wills Creek. If you get to Standing Rock Rock - the only paved turn-off before Birds Run, I believe - you've definitely gone too far. A dirt road - little better than two deep ruts - ran past the barn, into the trees, and up the hill. The road curved, so that even standing at the bottom of the hill, you could not see the top. The cemetery is in a small clearing at the top of the hill. There used to be plenty of room to park and turn your car around at the top; it would be a bit of a hike to park at the bottom and walk up, but doable if you don't want to try the road. It's very quiet and peaceful up there, a lovely spot. Several of my Phillips ancestors are buried there, along with many from collateral lines - Banker, Wilson, and Mitchell, among others. The earliest I have was 1863, the most recent 1960. The cemetery is maintained by the Wheeling Township Trustees, so you might try contacting them, or the closest funeral home, or one of the the tombstone companies in Cambridge if you still can't find the cemtery. I found all sorts of TR right around > in there... is there another name for the road????? It looks like you got these directions from the Guernsey County web site, but unfortunately I don't know who supplied them. The USGS GNIS server doesn't mention Williams Cemetery, so it must be a very small one. Since it is a family cemetery, apparently, it would probably be on land once owned by the Williams, if you can locate that. Anyway, some suggestions if you feel like some more aimless driving :-). On my map I found TR 7451, but it was located several miles to the south of SR 265, on the border between Guernsey and Noble Co. (in Richland Twp.) It is also called Russell Rd., and it intersected only SR 313. If you go straight north from that line, you come close to TR 7470 (Larue Rd.) (which does cross SR 265 and is in Wills Twp.). This suggests some geographical regularity in naming of the roads. Assuming the instructions are correct (appearing more and more doubtful),it may be an unnamed road near TR 7470. My map shows several Township Roads 74xx along SR 265 between Lore City and Salesville, though not TR 7451. Traveling east along SR 265, starting at SR 285 which goes into Lore City: * Travel 2.4 miles to CR 74 (Salem Rd.). * After another 0.4 miles, TR 7430 is on the right. * After 0.3 miles, there is an unnamed road on the left. * After 0.2 miles, there is a second unnamed road on the left. * After 0.1 miles, Gildea Rd. is on the right. * After another 0.1 miles, there is a third unnamed road on the left. * After another 0.4 miles, you'll cross TR 7470 (Larue Rd.). My guess is that it is the second of the unnamed roads, which is about half way between TR 7430 and TR 7470. Half a mile east of there is pretty close to TR 7470, though, so it seems odd that it is not referenced from that point. Sorry I can't tell you anything definitive. Hello, I'm new to the Guernsey County list. I'm researching my husband's surname: GRUBBS I'm wondering if anyone has access to the 1850 Guernsey County census who would be kind enough to do a look-up for me. My father-in-law rented a microfilm copy, but he said it was too faint to pick up anything. Perhaps someone out there has a better copy? I am looking for the info listed for Millwood Township, page 349, for Smith GRUBB and his son Jesse GRUBBS. They also might be in the 1860 census, but sometime after serving in the Civil War, Jesse moved to the Cincinnati area. Hello, My gg grandfather, Charles Edwin Booth, was born in Guernsey Co., OH on March 20, 1859. Sometime in the 1860s or 1870s he moved to Madison Co., IA. Charles married Elvina McClain (b:1864 d:1906) on February 10, 1881 in Madison Co., IA. They raised the following children in IA: Jennie May b:1881 d:1954 m George Perkins Elizabeth Alice b:1883 d:1961 m Oscar Lee Peacock Jessie Belle m Byron S. Brown Roy Ellsworth m Melissa Faux Clyde Edwin James Wesley Nellie Grace m Walter A. Weaver and possibly Hubert C. Woolery Clarence Wm On Charles' marriage license his parents are listed as Thomas and Elizabeth Booth. That is all the information that I have on his parents. These Booths are a mystery. There is very little information on them. I tried to get a copy of Charles' birth certificate, but Guernsey Co does not have birth records prior to 1867. Does anyone know who might have birth records from 1859 (Guernsey Co)? or Has access to a 1860 Guernsey Co census and would be willing to do a lookup? I really appreciate the help as I am at a brick wall with these Booths. I live in Baraboo, Sauk Co., WI and would be happy to do lookups for this area. I have many sources available as I live in the county seat. Thanks for your help!
