If there is someone out there that has access to the Gurnsey County census of 1840, I would appreciate a lookup. I have a disc with the index but not the whole census. It only gives the name, county and state. I am looking for ANY info on Jackson McKee, who was there in 1840. Thanks Lisa

Yes, It was a huge manor type home with 2 areas for the "wards"...boys on one side and girls on the other. There was a kitchen, large dining area, a large community room with a piano and of course other "off limits" rooms we were never allowed to see. I know my brothers and I were able to see each other once in awhile...mostly at meal time, once in awhile on the playground and holidays we all gathered in the community room. It was a dark/cold place but yet I remember it being warm with people that seemed to care about us. I have some good memories of it...tho I was awfully young at the time. I hated seeing the building torn down but know they have nice cottage type dwellings there now. I only hope and pray they have the same type of warm/compassionate people working there as they did in my stay. I'm sure Sally could tell us more. I remember riding past it as we came into Cambridge on rt. 22. The old home was a large manor like building. I thought it would be an interesting building to investigate but not so pleasant to live there. They tore it down and put in a one floor building that looked more pleasant and modern. Brian L.
