    1. [OHGUERNS] 1910 Ohio Census Miracode
    2. R Thomas
    3. The 1910 Ohio Census Miracode is at Ancestry.com -- free for 14 days. From my experience with the 1910 PA Census Miracode posted a couple weeks ago, be prepared for mispellings. You might want to try variations on spellings, or do a search for an entire town or first name. My great grandmother, Jane Thomas, was listed as James Thomas, even though she was a widow, and her deceased husband was David! I found her by searching for the children. Happy hunting! The name is Pisgah in Quaker City. According to the Guernsey County cemeteries list (linked to below), there is a cemetery at the Pisgah Church of Christ, which is located on CR 94 (Pisgah Rd.) near its junction with CR 69. This is supposedly in Oxford Township, though I can't find CR 69 in that area on my maps. The USGS GNIS server shows a Pisgah Church located just north of I-70. This suggests the instructions are in error as this would put it on CR 690. This is relatively far from Quaker City, about six miles. 3. Posted on: Guernsey Co. OH Queries Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Oh/Guernsey/1248 Surname: BEVARD, ABELS ------------------------- I got the following from Tom Abels and thought you might be interested in it. thanks Tom Larry, I saw your posting in the Guernsey Co. Queries. Another researcher is also checking out this same line, Nila Boone, (Nilajeancb@aol.com). She is descended from Phoebe Ables, dau. of Mary Ann (Bevard) Abels. (Its spelled both ways Abels / Ables). Nila asked me why I thought Mary Ann Bevard was the mother of Phoebe and not Hannah McPeek (John Abels' 1st wife.) I sent her the following information: ----------------- Regarding why I placed who with who on the wives of John Ables. Our own family oral history always stated that John Ables had 3 wives. The LDS library lists them as Nancy McPeek, Mary Ann Bevard, and Margaret House. The birth dates that I have for his children are: Bethuel, b. 1831 Rachel, b. 1832 James D., b. 1834 Rebecca, b. 1836 Nancy E., b. 1838 Margaret, b. 1839/40 d. age 3 John T., b. 1841 Sarah J., b. 1842 Hannah Phoebe, b. abt 1848 Susan M., b. abt 1850 The Marriage Book in Guernsey Co., OH, lists John Ables as marrying Nancy McPeek on 16 Nov, 1830, 10 months before Bethuel was born. The 1850 census declares the John Ables family as: John 44 b. OH Mary A. 44, b. MD Rachel 17, b. OH James 14, b. OH Rebecca 13, b. OH Nancy 11, b. OH WIlliam 9, b. OH Sarah 7, b. OH Hannah P. 2, b. OH Susan M. 8 mo., b. OH The 1860 census declares it as: John 51 b. OH Mariam 55 b. MD WIlliam 19 b. OH Sarah 17 b. OH Hannah 12 b. OH Susan 10 b. OH The 1880 Census declares it as: John b. OH Phoebe McAfee 32 b. OH (dau) William U. McAfee 10 b. OH (grandson) John McAfee 8, b. OH (grandson) He is not listed in the 1900 Census and I have yet to look up McAfee in Guernsey County for the years in question. I assumed due to the 6 year gap between the birth of daughters Sarah & Hannah and that John was married to Hannah McPeek in 1830 and Mary Ann Bevard in 1850 that Mary Ann was the mother of the latter two. I assumed he was still married to Nancy in 1838 when his daughter, Nancy was born. I have yet to find a record of his marriage to Mary Ann Bevard. (I have also found it spelled Brevard.) Her parents were William Sr. Bevard & Mary ____. Both said they were born in Ireland. However, the 1911 "History of Guernsey Co., Ohio" by Sarchett (I have a copy), lists Mary Ann Bevard as the mother of 9 children and lists them as listed above omitting Bethuel. But it lists no other wives. John Ables is buried at Mt. Zion Cemetery in Jackson Twp., Guernsey Co., OH. I have been there and have pictures of the markers. His says: "Father and Mother" "Rev. John Abels died May 3, 1888 in his 81st year" "Mary Abels 1805 - 1880" I have not found any documentation (other than the LDS records) about his wife Margaret House. In amongst the family documents I have is a tin-type picture of a heavy-set woman. On the back in yellowed tape is a label, "Mother of John Ables, the preacher". I have not formally identified her. His real mother, Ann Borton, I believe died in 1813 -- long before tin-types were available. Maybe it was his 2nd wife, Alzannah Cochran. I believe it is really the wife of John Ables, not his mother. That would make it Mary Ann (Bevard) Ables. A reduced picture size is attached: -------------------- That was what I sent Nila. I'll also attach the picture described above. Tom Abels tomaabels@aol.com

Some of my Methodist relatives (or at least their wives) were buried in the Fairview Corporation and U.P. Cemetery, where "U.P." apparently refers to the United Presbyterians. So I wouldn't restrict yourself to just Methodist cemeteries. 3. I was interested in this statement. I'm sure you have no say for this, but I do have something to say. My Bighams came from Guernsey County and they went to Texas. One thing about Texas.. They are trying to put all their cemeteries on line. Those people use a bit of thinking before they put a price on family. May be.. This county should take lessons on how to earn money. In the mean-time. My tree gets further away, since I don't have access to all those coveted records or the 10.00 bucks it call's for on a fixed income. Louise

Belmont Ridge is in neighboring Belmont County, in Flushing Township, along the Northeastern shore of what is now Piedmont Lake. Piedmont Lake was built during the early years of the Twentieth Century. I believe that there is a church and cemetary there./ .. As to cemetaries in Fairview, remember when working with ancestors from this area, that Fairview sits on the Guernsey Belmont County line.My Great Grandmother died at her residence in Fairview, but her death certificate was filed with Belmont County./ .... If you check out the main web page associated with this Guernsey County query board, you will find many resources, including an alphabetical listing of the cemetaries in Guernsey County. Many of these cemetaries have been recorded, and under OFFLINE RESOURCES and PUBLICATIONS the Guernsey County Genealogical Society has a listing of the cemetaries in Oxford Township where Fairview is LOcated. I think that it is only about ten dollars. Or you might try for a lookup if you know something about the date of death. I am sorry that I do not have the listing for Oxford Township, only the one for Londonderry Township./ .. Good Luck in your research./ .. Joseph Jewell

    1. [OHGUERNS] FISHER, JOSEPH
    2. Joseph Fisher was born about 1805 in Ohio. He was married approximately 1832 in perhaps Monroe Co OH as can't find him in any surrounding states and that court house burned. He married Judith Lappin a resident of Belmont Co. OH. In 1838 or so he moved to Morgan Co. Ohio where he was located in 1850 census in Marion Township. In 1852 he sold his land in Morgan Co, stating he was a resident of Washington Co. OH, but in searching both the land records, census records, death records, etc I can find no sign that he had ever been in Washington Co. OH. His children were as followed: John about 1832, Knight about 1833, Elizabeth about 1835, Thomas about 1838, Hannah about 1840, Mary J. about 1842, Rachel about 1844 and Ruth A. about 1847. These birth years are based on the 1850 census. I have no other information on this family other than perhaps son Knight was married in Fulton Co. IL in the 1858, but disappears in the 1870 census. His sister-in-law was in Fulton Co., but I don't seem to find him there. Other sister and brother-in-laws were in Wayne Co., Morgan Co., Belmont Co., and Indiana and Iowa, but no sign of this family near them. Any leads would be appreciated. 1. [OHGUERNS] OH connection to Murray, KY
    2. Doug and Patti Ensor
    3. I have noticed that a large number of my family immigrated to this area of OH from PA via Murray, KY which currently is in Calloway Co., KY (SW part of state). Since this is such a long way around to get from PA to OH, I am wondering if there was another Murray, KY, possibly now non-existant, in the 1790's and early 1800's that could have been part of a migration route to the US Military District. Does anyone know? The current Murray was variously known as Willistion, Pooltown, and Pleasant Hill before being incorporated as Murray in 1844. Does anyone else on this list have family that came here via Murray, KY? If you do, I would love to hear from you to try to learn why they took this route. Did they go to KY and decide they didn't like it and then move to OH? Mine were in OH 40-50 years before the Civil War so I know they didn't move north for that reason. Hoping to hear from anyone with ideas, Patti
