I have information on them and their descendants, if you need it.

My g-g-aunt Marinda Powell married Laban French. Laban's mother was Mahala Barr m. Richard French in Tuscarawas Co OH in 1838. Around 1850 the French family left Ohio and eventually settled in Perry County IL. I don't know if the Barrs in Tuscarawas are related to the Barrs in Guernsey. I am interested in this name as it relates to VanGundy and Overly. There was an Overly family in Guernsey Co OH in the 1820's. I think the Ross Co Ohio F family may have gone to Indiana, I have found them near Overly-related names in Fountain County Indiana. That census is online if you are interested in it. ----- Original Message ----- From: Jonathan Ferbrache <jiferbrache@hotmail.com> To: <OHGUERNS-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Saturday, February 10, 2001 10:40 PM Subject: [OHGUERNS] Martha Ferbrache > Posted on: Guernsey Co. OH Queries Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Oh/Guernsey/1421 Surname: Kimble, Kimball ------------------------- Do you have information about the ancestors of Elizabeth Kimble who married Matthew Orr, 1831, in Guernsey Co, Ohio. Both are buried in Irish Ridge Cemetery. They are great, great, great grandparents of mine. Their daughter, Nancy, married George Little.
I am humbly asking that someone with access to the 1870 census for Guernsey County do a lookup for me on the above named individual. I am interested in learning what the family surname was in Ireland as I believe it was changed to SLAYMON on arrival in America. Michael SLAYMON is believed to have come from Galway in Ireland on or about 1864. He was born there in Feb. 1841, and was married to Mary CARR in 1872. Any help in this regard would be most helpful as crossing the pond with these folks is my brickwall. Best, Joe Burt
According to my map, that would be in Wheeling Township, in the NW corner of Guernsey Co. Specifically, section 10 is the second mile south of the Tuscarawas Co. line and 7 1/2 miles east of the Coshocton Co. line. On a current highway map, it is 1 1/2 miles east of Interstate 77 and 1 mile south of the Co. line. Hope that helps Bob Fuller Niceta Milner wrote: > > I have a land grant from 1820 for Edward Milner that shows the property > located: > The south west quarter of the southwest quarter of Section Ten, in > Township four of range 3 of the unappropriated lands in the military > district subject to sale at Zainsville, Ohio, containing forty acres. > Can anyone give me some idea where that would be on a current map?? > Thanks for any help. Hello, Many of my family members came from Buffalo. I have wonderful memories of the place as a child. According to family lore, my great-grandfather James CATLETT owned a grocery/general store, movie theater, skating rink/basketball court and possibly a bar in Buffalo. I am interested in any history of Buffalo that I could gather. My family (the ones I remember visiting and staying with in Buffalo are: Adda and Andrew REID, Daisy and Reuben CONRAD, Leslie and Nora CATLETT, Jenny (Ginny) and Frank WILLIAMS, Clarissa KACKLEY. Also, somewhere nearby, maybe around Pleasant City, but in the "country" were the LAFOLLETTE's--the matriarch Camilia, her son and daughter-in-law, Ira and Olive, their son and daughter-in-law, Francis and Patty. If any of this is familiar to anyone, or if anyone has information on Buffalo, please contact me. Thank you. Cinda Jenney Akron, Ohio
I have a land grant from 1820 for Edward Milner that shows the property located: The south west quarter of the southwest quarter of Section Ten, in Township four of range 3 of the unappropriated lands in the military district subject to sale at Zainsville, Ohio, containing forty acres. Can anyone give me some idea where that would be on a current map?? Thanks for any help. Niceta Milner
I recently found a) a land record and b) an 1870 plat map of Guernsey Co. Using the map I was able to locate the land precisely from the legal description. The land is in section 24 of Madison TWP, due south from Winterset (still called Winchester in this map). Nearby on the map noticed a Baptist church. It's unnamed but in section 18 of Madison TWP, on land owned by Charlotte Stockdale (or near it). Could this be Brushy Fork Baptist? [If not, what is it?] The Helm family were members of the Salt Fork Baptist church in the 1820's but that's in Oxford TWP, & from discussions with some other posters some of the same ministers served both. I would think the Helm family would have participated in a more convenient local church -- maybe they were founders. Wolfe has a brief comment about Brushy Fork, that it closed its doors recently [ca 1940?], was in Madison TWP, established 1830. But that's all. Where is/was Brushy Fork Baptist church? Does it still exist? Are there any records or more information about it available? Thanks, ==mwh
I'm looking for information regarding Joseph Mullin (or McMullin) who married a Mary Bay in 1815. Had child named Mary Catharine who married a man named Smart. They perhaps were in the Guernsey area - Spencer, Richland, Liberty, Jefferson, Wills, or Center Twps.up to around 1850 or so. Joseph may have had Columbiana and/or Hancock County connection. All help will certainly be appreciated. Tom Bay, Columbus, OH tbay@columbus.rr.com
