OH Queries Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Oh/Guernsey/1440 Surname: Bell, Gilmore, Downard, Frame, Thompson, Charlton, Phillips, O'Neal, Work ------------------------- Well, this is interesting news! I would say we are probably cousins, based on the frequent intermarriage of these families in Guernsey Co. The cousin in my family tree named Work is Martha Work, dau. of Alexander and Catherine Work, who m. James York Frame abt 1798. James York Frame b 25 Mar 1768 Fayette Co., PA and d 14 Oct 1858 in Guernsey Co. He was son of James "Irish Jimmy" Frame, the progenitor of so many Guernsey Co. Frames. "Irish Jimmy" was b 1729 in Lanarkshire, Scotland and d 22 May 1794 in Merrittstown, Fayette Co., PA. His wife was Susannah Downard, b abt 1732 in Chester Co., PA and d 1787/1794 in Merrittstown, Fayette Co., PA. "Irish Jimmy" and Susannah were my 4th great-grandparents. Susannah Downard was daughter of William Downard b abt 1686, d bef 13 Jan 1761 and Anne (Charlton? Phillips? O'Neal?) Their children in addition to Sarah were Ann Downard, b abt 1730 in London Grove, Chester Co., PA, and d abt 1800 in Salem, Fayette Co., PA. Ann married Jacob Thompson abt 1748. Jacob was b abt 1727 in Belfast, Ireland and d abt 1795 in New Salem, Fayette Co., PA. They were the progenitors of a large family of Guernsey Co. Thompsons. Jacob and Ann were my 4th great-grandparents too. William and Anne Downard are also supposed to have had sons William D. b abt 1725 and Jacob b abt 1727. The family researchers I have corresponded with have not been able to trace their descendants. I would not be surprised at all if they were to show up in Guernsey Co., since the Frames and Thompsons also went there. I hope this information helps you by giving you some clues to Daniel Downard's ancestry, as well as Elizabeth Work's. I would be very glad to know if you find some and if you would share them. I have not heard of Nancy in WA state. I hope she lives close to me in Everett so I can visit. I will send her a copy of this message.

    3. Posted on: Guernsey Co. Oh Obituaries Reply Here: http://genconnect.rootsweb.com/gc/USA/Oh/GuernseyObits/123 Surname: Scott, Cain, Hatton, McCulloch ------------------------- Obituary: "Dr. Albert Riley Cain, age 69 years, a prominent and highly respected citizen of Cambridge, died suddenly Sunday morning at 7:40 o'clock at his home, 322 North Sixth Street, following an attack of heart trouble. Dr. Cain had suffered slightly from a severe cold on Thanksgiving Day but Saturday evening enjoyed his usual health. As was his custom, he arose Sunday morning at 6:30 o'clock and went to the first floor of the home to prepare the fires. After starting them and carrying coal, he sat down in the sun parlor before a fire to read The Life Of Thomas Jefferson before arousing his wife. Mrs. Cain went to the first floor about 7:40 o'clock and was shocked to find her husband's lifeless body lying upon a coal bucket in front of the fire. She ran to the home of her daughter, Mrs. Mary Cain-Scott, nearby and then assisted by Mr. and Mrs. Scott made every effort to revive Dr. Cain previous to the arrival of physicians. Coroner C. Bates was summoned and attributed the cause of death to heart trouble. It was apparent that Dr. Cain had suffered an attack while seated in his easy chair and pitched forward, his face striking the coal bucket slightly bruising the forehead. Dr. Cain was born November 9th, 1850, at Carlisle, Noble County, and was the son of Dr. Richard and Adelia Cain. His parents died when he was a child. He received his early education in Noble County and for a time attended a school taught by the late John M. Amos with whom he retained a life-long friendship. At the age of eighteen he entered Cincinnati Medical College and after graduating took up his practice in Senecaville. After practicing for 20 years he took a post graduate course in Starling Medical college of Columbus and in 1892 located in Cambridge. Dr. Cain was a kind and loving husband and father and spent all his leisure time at home. Through his administration of treatment and relief to the poor and needy, he became one of the most widely known practicing physicians in Cambridge and partially undermined his health in making night calls to all parts of the county. He was a lover of children and never failed to talk with all boys and girls who had been under his care upon meeting them on the streets and became a favorite among the children of Cambridge. He never failed to administer relief to the suffering where his services were desired, and during the influenza epidemic in Guernsey County, devoted himself unsparingly to the insistent demands for physicians. One of his daily habits was to devote a portion of his time to his family. A lover of books, magazines and high class literature, he was probably one of the most thoroughly read and well posted citizens in Guernsey County and took an exceptional pride in being familiar with current events. He devoted at least two hours each day to reading, and his medical and home libraries were among the most complete in the city. On April 24, 1879, he was united in marriage with Miss Eliza Hatton of Senecaville, and to this happy union were born three children; Richard Howell Cain, who died in infancy, Mrs. Mary Cain-Scott of Mehaffey Court, and Mrs. Laura Cain-McCulloch of Hartford, Conn. His only sister died about seven years ago. The announcement of Dr. Cain's death was made early Sunday morning, the news spreading rapidly throughout the city and was a great shock not only the the members of his immediate family but to his many warm friends. Besides his widow, the deceased is survived by the two daughters and one grandchild, Stephen Albert Scott, city. Funeral services will be held Wednesday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock at the late home, conducted by Rev. Edwin Kirby, pastor of the First Methodist Episcopal Church. Burial will be make in Northwood Cemetery." Undated clipping from an unidentified newspaper.

Sixth St., well known businessman in Cambridge many years, died at 10 p.m. Wednesday at Guernsey Memorial Hospital where he had been admitted about 30 minutes earlier. Although he had been in failing health three years, his death was a shock to his many friends. He was stricken at home and taken to the hospital as quickly as possible. He was the kind of a person who liked people and they found him to be pleasant, considerate and wholesome, an individual with an unusually attractive personality. 'Bud' Scott was the last of his generation of a well known, prominent family here. His forebears were successful in coal mine operations east of Cambridge back in the 1800s. They were among the pioneers in the industry here, and as they prospered so did this entire area. But 'Bud' Scott was a successful businessman in his own right. Years ago he acquired the W.B. Green Insurance Co., and as a result of his efforts, it became one of the leading agencies in this section. 'Bud' Scott worked hard, but he took time to enjoy his family and hobbies. He liked sports and received much pleasure in fishing and hunting with his friends, frequently going on trips to Canada with them. He also was interested in his church, in fraternal groups and was a devoted father and husband. In his death last week, Cambridge lost an esteemed citizen, a real gentleman."
