Does anyone have knowledge of the William ROGERS' Family? .... or the related BARNES and HOOPMAN famiies from West Nottingham, Cecil, Maryland who moved first to Harrison County, Ohio and then to Guernsey County, Ohio after 1820?....or a listing those buried in the Old HOOPMAN Cemetery? Census data puts the families in Jackson Township, Guernsey County up to about 1850 then some left and others stayed in Guernsey County. William ROGERS was born Feb. 6, 1780 in West Nottingham, Cecil County, Maryland and died Dec. 31, 1847. William Rogers is buried in the Old Hoopman Cemetery (now called Ball's Grove Cemetery) at Trail Run (now called Robins, Ohio) in Jackson Township, Guernsey County, Ohio. He married Jane ROGERS who was born about 1780 in Fountain Green, HC, Maryland, married Apr. 7, 1802 at St. Georges' Parish, HC, Maryland, and died between 1817-1820 in Cadiz twp, Harrison County, Ohio. The one child of William and Jane ROGERS that I know of is Susannah. She was born Sept. 3,1804 in West Nottingham, Cecil, Maryland and died Oct. 3, 1867 in Paris Twp., Union Co., Ohio. Susannah married Levi Barnes. Levi was born in 1805 in Baltimore, Baltimore Co., Maryland. Levi and Susannah married April 10, 1823 in Harrison Co., Ohio. The family moved to Guernsey County and Levi Barnes died in the early part of 1848 in Trail Run, now know as Robins, Ohio, Jackson Twp., Guernsey, Ohio. (Maybe buried in the Old Hoopman Cemetery). The children of this marriage were:William T. (1830-1887 -- died in Merrill Grove, Shelby Co., Iowa - and married Emily Poling) Eliza E., ( b: 1833) John Wesley, (Born 1838 in Harrison Co. and died 1907 in Marysville, Union Co., Ohio -- and married Catharine Oliphant Hale 11-1856) Margaret (died after 1907) Isaac H. Barnes (Isaac and Amanda (who follows) may have been born to a HOOPMAN and ROGERS family -- maybe a sister of Susannah Barnes and in turn "adopted" by Levi and Susannah for some unknown reason. By that I mean that in the 1850 census of Gurensey County, Jackson Township, Ohio, Susan Barnes, 45 years, MD, Eliza E. 17 years, OH; William T. 20 yrs, OH; John W. 12 years, OH; Issac HOOPMAN 9 years, OH; Amanda HOOPMAN 3 years, OH.) Isaac was born Oct. 9, 1840 married Almeda Dunlap Amanda Barnes (married Daniel Beighler) in Union County, Ohio and later moved to Van Wert County, Ohio. If anyone can see a connection to this family or has any information on the BARNES or HOOPMAN who married ROGERS I would love to hear from you.... Thanks! I have a list of their children if you are interested. I research the Longs. Dollisons. Ruth was the daughter of Thomas Dollison and Susan Yeater. Is there a cemetery in Quaker City? I'm looking for my Robinson clan who lived most of their lives in Quaker City. If at all possible I would appreciate a lookup in a cemetery book or the name of a Quaker City funeral home that may have records from early 1900s for the following. William C. Robinson (b. July 1833 d. Mar 1911) Ruth Ann Dolison Robinson (b. ca1835 d. Aug 25, 1913) Mary E. Robinson (b. 1854 d. ?) Carry or Carrie C. Robinson (b. 1858 d. after 1913) Albert H. (Hiram or Harvey???) Robinson, (b. 1860 d. after Mar 24, 1911) Amos S. Robinson (b. 1865 d. ??) John S. Robinson (b. Apr 10, 1867 d. ??) Anna E. Robinson (b. 1869 d. after Aug 25 1913) Thanks, List members, for all your fine help!!! Carolyn Robinson-Texas
Seeking info on William C. ROBINSON (b. July 1833 d. Mar 1911 s/o John Robinson & Mary Morgan) and wife, Ruth Ann DOLLISON/ DOLISON (b. ca1835 to Thomas and ? Dollison of Caldwell, Noble Co where this couple married in 1854). The places they lived included Kennonsburgh and Batesville in Noble Co., but most of their married life was in Quaker City, Guernsey Co., OH. The couple's children who were listed as living in June 1898, the date William filed for Civil War Pension App. are: Mary E. Robinson, b. 1954 Carry C. (f), b. 1858 Albert H., b. 1860 Amos S., b. 1865 John S., b. 1867 Anna E., b. 1869 A Harvey Robinson was listed as a witness with Carrie on several documents within the Pension packet. If their child Albert's middle name is not Harvey, then Harvey may be a close relative of William's. Both Anna and Carry (Carrie) are believed to have remained unmarried at least until after the death of their mother, Ruth, in 1913 because they were each reported to have nursed her during her final weeks of life in the pension documents. Their surnames were still Robinson. If you know of these families or their descendants, please let me know. Thanks, Carolyn

Robin, I've got a General Land Office CD of Ohio Land records 1790-1907. However, I don't know how to access the names of land owners. If you or anyone on the List can tell me how to use this CD, I'll be glad to look up names. These 2 men, John & George Kelso, are listed as landowners in the 1821-1832 tax rolls. But they're not on the census and don't show up in the personal property tax rolls. In the 1840's John Kelso is involved in lawsuit over lands being sold as part of Benjamin Helm's estate. The legal description of the land is either the same as the land on the 1820's tax rolls, or an adjacent piece. I expect John or his heirs held a mortgage with Helm or partnered with him or something of the sort. [Would sure like to know!] The Kelso's don't seem to own a lot of land in Guernsey Co. Who are they? Where are they? Where are they from? Any advice appreciated.
The FHC library of the LDS church has tax duplicates for Guernsey Co from 1821-1832. These are extremely interesting; recommended. (Film nos: 506584 559349; anyone looking at this period should also get the court journals) One thing that I noticed was how stable the population was. Once someone came, they were present year after year. The window is shut after 1832. Does anyone know anything about the existence and accessibility of tax records after 1832? Real estate & property assessments would be very helpful to me; was there a poll tax?
